Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

What can I do to get laid off? I can't approach this topic with my manager or HR.

I approached HR complaining about my manager and he's super unhappy, and definitely there's retaliation in subtle ways (giving my projects to others, questioning my performance etc.). It feels awful, and I just want to quit, but the more I research, the more I learn that layoff is better. If I quit, I won't get unemployment benefits, and I have been here for over 10 years, so I feel layoff may not be bad if I get severance.

Can they "fire" me for poor performance instead of layoff? I am not on any performance plan so far, and previous reviews have always been outstanding. I now don't trust HR so I don't want to approach them either.

And another thing, if you try to stay with the current manager. Make sure everything the requirements for everything you are working on are documented in writing.

Don't fall for this scam: Manager sends email describing what you are to work on. Later you have a meeting and manager changes the work you have to do verbally..... he tells you something different than what is in the email. Then when you do that, he says you have done the wrong thing, as you did not do what was documented in the email. He can also use that email with upper management and HR and you won't even know it's happening. Give you bad performance marks, etc.

Don't count on manager's thugs as witnesses, they will LIE with the manager to anyone the manager wants them to lie to.

You have to cover your back, make sure you document meetings in writing. You could also record meetings. But then, this only works if you know what lies the manager has told about you. They can do it carefully behind your back, and you may not ever know what was said, so you cannot defend yourself with additional information like additional emails or recordings.

It's difficult to understand the lengths that manager's and followers will go to until it happens to you. Things like this were done to me for a long time before I understood what was happening.

  1. HR is not your friend, it is there to protect COMPANY from YOU, not other way around.

  2. See #1.

It's better to go to another team in same company.

I suggest that you start looking immediately.

1) it will get you into the head you need to be in vs hoping you will get laid off which is terrible

2) you will make more money at the new job to make up for lost severance if you even get it

3) you don't want to be looking for work while unemployed, it's bad all around

good luck

HR is not your friend, don't ever talk to HR about anything. They don't care, they don't want to get involved, they will just give the information right back to your manager. HR takes care of the company, and in doing that, they do whatever the management wants. If your manager does not like you, HR will take their word over yours always. Never talk to HR.

It's difficult to fire someone, so you might hang on for the layoff, but if your manager knows you want that and doesn't like you, he may very well never give you what you want. He can just screw you over indefinitely. Managers have a lot of power, give you the wrong information, make you work with someone who is sabotaging everything and blaming you.

I think it's possible for manager and some of their thugs to lie enough to get you fired, but it's probably unlikely. Whatever you do, keep a level head, don't let them record you being upset about anything, just play Mr. Nice-Guy all the way and I don't think they can do anything. If you start blowing up about anything, that is one way they can get you fired.

Good luck.

Does this discussion is one sided where not consider employee concerns? Hope someone will guide here on "Does severance package is fixed or we can negotiate with either manager or HR?"

Your suggestions or experience will give some guidance to others.

“what is the meaning of this sentence if my US manager sent email to IDC employee?

I need to meet with you Friday in the office to discuss an important business requirement. Can you be available and come in to the office on Friday?”

Most likely, you’re getting laid off. Your US manager is either there in person or he/she copy pasted what HR gave without reading

Dear it is universal truth but you realized this truth in your later stage ,that is your fault.

1.) In all product base companies ,their is no role as such of HR ,all the decision in technical front are taken by management like salary, offer ,hikes and promotions. HR dept. is just for dummy or best fit to organize internal events and participate .

2.) Don't put everything in your business ,no one knows when organization start disliking you. I am not saying that don't wise or give 100% on your workspace but give proper time to your carrier growth as well and until you stay with any workspace be wise and honest for organization because organization didn't put any boundation on you to work with them.

Put more work on your future job preparations and interviews, so that you are ready for the market.

Put basic minimum to sail along the job (anyways your manager has stopped giving you key projects).

If he points deficiency in your work, keep the conversation to minimum with, 'Sure, i will take care the next time. "(Because you complained to HR, your manager will now never get impressed however hard you work)

Please make sure that you don't engage in anything inviting disciplinary actions. Coz' if they fire you for disciplinary actions, then you don't get severance pay.

Make sure you don't respond angrily if your manager provokes you. One common trick in O is to provoke the juniors with rudeness and insults so much, that the junior is forced to shout back, and then they can apply disciplinary action (hence no severance pay)...So PLEASE DONT FALL INTO THIS COMMON TRAP and behave SENSIBLY.

Never approach HR . They have no real powers, and in their efforts to become relevant and gain some visibility, the HRs spoil things instead of improving things. HRs are only for exit interviews if you resign, else don't self-invite negative energy in your life

Just continue what you are doing and wait for the layoff if you can stand being there. Put in minimal effort so basically just coasting and cross your fingers to get laid off at the next round. Good luck getting laid off.
