I have been deleting names from my same time of my fellow employees that have left. Not a single one of them was dead weight. So much talent exiting. That is what happens when you do what Verizon did. I may be wrong, but this is going to bite them in the a-- big time.

Just remember that IT department, besides billing, also runs your payroll. When was the last time you didn't get paid?
Let’s talk about that less than par IT. This company is bleeding revenue because the IT systems are so bad and we aren’t billing customers for their services. I see it everyday and it is only going to get worse. IT executives in this company are a joke and will continue to be.
The truth is, a company can live with less than par customer service. We can also live with less than par IT. The fact is the NETWORK is a necessity! They allowed very intelligent people to take the package in Network. That was stupid! Now the Network managers who are left are inexperienced baboons. We need our network!
they don't care.. They are going down to bare bones to Sell off or be acquired ...
Verizon charges premium prices because they once gave better service. When they keep laying off customer service reps, or outsource the jobs to people who can't speak English, and hire contractors who are paid less and care less about quality, they lose the reason they can charge higher prices. Eventually, their only option is to lower their prices or lose more customers. It's going to be hard to pay $110B of debt with declining revenue.
"A beat will not be skipped. Everyone is replaceable. Don’t get it twisted."
Honestly, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. When they were laying off XO employees they shut down whole departments, that took care of critical customer service. Then acted surprised when customers started griping and cancelling their contracts. It's not just Verizon, a lot of big corporations can't find their butt with both hands and flashlight, when it comes to laying employees off. I'm pretty sure they just look at org chart and start chopping randomly. Ericsson, under Hans cut all but five techs (out of nearly a hundred) at one service location in Dallas. And they acted completely gobsmacked when their customer accounts stopped getting serviced. "Wow, we never saw that coming!" But it looked good on the books for a few months, until the money stopped coming in.

Sametime?! Maybe they are no longer on Sametime because the migrated to Jabber like everyone else?
Much as I hate to say it, Verizon survived the last big buyout (by almost double), and they will survive this one too. At least they offered a decent severance package. More generous than most companies.
I hope these layoffs bite verizon badly
Were they directly engaged in bringing in customer revenue or product development? If they were how were their sales/products doing? If they weren't they go into the overhead accounts, which are always trying to be minimized for the long term, keeping in mind that you want to maximize profit and return on investment, so a certain amount of overhead is a necessary evil.
