Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Who will want to work here?

I'm just wondering, with Oracle's reputation that it's extorting its customers and a growing reputation of constantly having layoffs - how will the company be able to find replacements - even the lowest paid ones - for the people they are laying off?

Who in their right mind would want to start working here after all of this?

Oracle neither recognizes nor rewards talent.. Even hikes are rare. Surprised how so many folks end up working for several years here. This severance package seems to be the best one Oracle can give it's employees.. Wish we could volunteer for this.

"But you do know when your stock is scheduled to sell, so you schedule the layoffs for right after that."

No material affect on the stock, however, the layoff being so small. At any rate, some markets reward cost-cutting --- so it may be wise to sometimes sell after a layoff.

Either way. I don't think there is anything suspect. Those stock sales have so much scrutiny under them that it's ill-advised to do anything suspect.

"have families to support and mortgages to pay."

This argument actually supports @YgIN6VK-usg keep moving mentality. BECAUSE you have so much on the line, you need to get more projects, experience under your belt constantly. You need to be more proactive in your network/marketability/mobility.

To do otherwise, in essence, is digging your own grave.

" no judgements or defense here, but y'all know these stock sales have been planned for years under rule 10b5-1, right? "

Yeah that's easy enough to work around if you're in charge. You can't deliberately sell stock before layoffs, that's illegal.

But you do know when your stock is scheduled to sell, so you schedule the layoffs for right after that.

Same outcome, but legal.

" You see, a lot of us view every stint as a 2-5 year deal" . <-- just because you do, doesn't mean everyone else does too. Some people want the job benefits and location and like the people they work with (not necessarily for) and have families to support and mortgages to pay.

Stupid. Oracle still has deep pockets. They will be able to hire whomever they want. You see, a lot of us view every stint as a 2-5 year deal. We take the job, the project, the money, then move on. We pursue newer challenges.

Most of us don't plan or desire to warm a chair for 10+ years.

And you don't even see inconsistency of your post. If Oracle is as bad as you think, ppl should be leaving in droves. And if ppl leave in droves, then they wouldn't need to have layoffs.

The problem Oracle has is they have too many employees who camp out there.

Reputation where? On this site? Look at linked in and you will see people who say positive things about Oracle - even stories from people who like to work here. It's the difference between watching fox news all day versus CNN. Does Oracle really have this reputation amongst it customers? OOW seems to be a popular event for a lot of haters, if that's the case. I've been to customer events such as cloud world and advisory boards and they all seem like they want to help Oracle succeed - not all are happy of course but they seem to have a commitment to oracle.

Oracle is struggling mightily to hire competent experienced people, but then again the 3 stooges don’t care about hiring competent, experienced people, so there you have it. LE and MH doubling down on the totally failed class of debacle. Stupid is as stupid does. Oracle is dead!

While I can udnerstand the question and agree, I do not think this is of any concern to the Exec level @ Oracle. They just made a fortune again while thousends lost their jobs. The Execs just don't care.
