Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Age.

Might be a stupid question. But, how does GM know an employee's age?

My standard practice:

Drop the Graduation Date off your resume (i posted my gpa instead).

Drop all positions more than 10-12 years ago.

Dont use a photo of yourself on Linkedin.

On paper, you want to look like someone with about 10 years EXP.

good luck!

GM is a shadow of the company it used to be

Maybe my manager was stealing the pizza money his boss gave him to treat the employees.

Birthday lunches would be cool. When I started 5 years ago manager could host quarterly team lunches on GM's dime to celebrate a job well done. Then it became end of year lunches on GM's dime. Then it became we had to pay for our own celebration. The only people who get free lunches are the executives who travel on site. We get the sc-aps they leave out after their meeting is over.

You put in when you get hired. You give them your SSN - it's easy to link it to a number of databases.

Do a peoplesearchnow.com and enter your name, you'll likely see your age.

@Yfd0hba-fgy So true!

I read an article where some GM executive was saying that they want to compete with Amazon & Google for tech talent ...

Would be amazing if they could do that while offering subpar pay, boring repetitive work and charging for food at lunch-n-learns (yes, this happened in Austin).

We had pot lucks our managers bought the big sandwich or pizza and we would pitch in with other goodies for everyone , our managers during Christmas would always buy us pizza , man I miss my team. We made GM good in our group and in our own way , that's all that matters. Pontiac GPS was a great place for me and the crew.

In Austin they never took us out to lunch.

Never even ordered pizza.

They were all about pot lucks, because that didn't cost them anything.

Yes , we had a big lunch for everyone in our group, lots of food and fun , a good bunch of people. Hard to believe things we're happy less than a year ago.

You tell them when you fill out the paperwork on the day you start.

So they know your age the same way they know your social security number.

Your date of birth is an important information in their system. Our EGM sent birthday greeting to every employee when it was his/her birthday.
