Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Diversity

Can someone explain why diversity is good? Everybody says it, but I never hear a reason why. Seriously. If it is so good for the business, and AT&T is #1 in diversity, why the heck do the business results absolutely s---???

Well, on that note, if we ever start buying things because Cricket is the driving force, definitely time to bow out ;) That said... seems Hockey is #5 over there. Hockey!

Well diversity keeps you from doing dumb things like buying DirecTV for the wrong kind of football channels. Here's a hint, the rest of the world loves soccer, not NFL.

The only color Randall and company care about is green

The diversity posturing is only in service of the corporate agenda of wage suppression. The pursuit of recognition for this is the bellwether of a failing company.

The poster who pointed out the corruption in India is SPOT ON.

I’m sick of hearing how great the Indian workforce is- so many of them BOUGHT their education and didn’t learn a thing. That is why it takes 2 American IT workers to fix the mistakes one of these corrupt dimbulbs make.

Cheap is not the same as “good”. T will never realize this because they are beholden to Wall st

Meanwhile, Shanksr and his buddies cheated to get through school and have a Doctorate from University of complete BS, and who's entire work/schooling history is impossible to verify. Not saying that that US education isn't in decline, but when stories are coming out about hundreds of thousands to millions of of students cheating in India, I wouldn't trust any bonafides. On top of that, they just come in for 3-6 months, get bonafides for working for AT&T - fake too really, cause they didn't do c-ap, then move to another company. Not saying all do this, but we can definitely tell if you know your sh!t (no matter where you're from), so please save us the BS.

Randall and company only care about diversity in skin color and gender. In other words, showing off how enlightened and politically correct they are.

AT&T does NOT want people over the age of fifty, therefore no age diversity. Nor does AT&T want people who do not blindly conform to corporate groupthink, therefore no diversity of thought.

The ONLY thing this organization cares about is making money. The leadership of this place is truly devoid of humanity and empathy for others.

US Government contracts will not be given to companies that do not preach "Diversity" This has been going on for 30 years. They do it for the $$, plain and simple.

all diversity should be tossed out the window. All tests for all jobs should be totally blind. Once you pass the test, if you are the top candidate at that point the employer will meet the candidate and if capable of performing the job then the employer has to hire that candidate. The most qualified. If all companies would do this I personally would have no concerns about whatever services I was hiring to be performed, because I would KNOW that I was being served by the most qualified. Just think, it would not matter what color, s-x, religion, ethnicity none of it would matter. Hiring the most qualified and throwing out diversity and affirmative action would solve many problems. Not enough ------------ (insert whatever) then they, who ever they are need to improve their skills.

Legacy AT&T was bigger on diversity than the Bell Companies, but SBC kind of adopted this AT&T initiative after they merged back together. However, I don’t believe upper management and executives are very diverse and I am skeptical that SBC or any of the other Bell companies only promote it for the good P.R.

Every major company, including T, has a VP in charge of "Diversity and Inclusion" The person chosen for the position is always a minority female. What does she actually do for her $250 K salary?

It's all bovine c-ap. The first thing T has done with Ted's legacy is 'invite' workers with decades of experience in their 50s to exodus. So no diversity of experienced staff who worked with technology Millennials have never seen. All staff the same age does not diversity make.

BS.

Diversity is good because our betters say it’s good.

Diversity is good because the “diversity doctrine is authoritarian in its essence,”

Diversity is good because government-imposed diversity divides and atomizes society, and it denies citizens the freedom and equality to create a shared and useful cultural environment to help them manage their lives.

Diversity is good because as it is currently practiced it divides us rather than unites us.

Diversity to these people means civil rights. Diversity of thought is good, as in not having group-think, but group-think isn't going to be defeated just by putting a diversity of different looking people onboard. The idea of diversity itself doesn't work as advertised, because to take it to a logical conclusion, shouldn't you have a Japanese only speaking person working with a Chinese only speaking person, with an Indian only speaking person, with an African only speaking person, with an English only speaking person. That should get the best results, right? even if none of them can even talk to each other. In reality, we all know diversity or differences cause conflict. Otherwise, what is all the bigotry that is being fought in the diversity movement? The whole history of the planet is keeping people who are different away from each other for the sake of peace. The whole idea of prisions is to keep people who don't think they have to follow laws away from people who think laws should be followed. The whole idea of efficiency in business is to group like things together and figure out how to do them all the same way. I guess instead of cars coming down an assembly line, each car should be built completely differently for the sake of diversity. Some cars with 3 wheels, some with 1 wheel. It's all good.

Diversity is important because we learn from each other through exposure. It's about continuously learning & evolving. Culture is import but Corporation need diversity for balance. Believe it or not everyone has different work ethics based on culture.

Just look at how many CEO's in ATT are white and you can see that the company doesnt believe in diversity. The next big wave is white female leadership, but you won't see diversity at the top of this company. Too much of a country club mentality.

Personally, I don’t care one iota about diversity. Just hire the best people for the jobs and promote the most talented individuals. Doesn’t matter to me if they are white, black, brown, straight, lgbtq, or xyz. However, i do not like having diversity shoved down my throat. I don’t like racism of any kind. Nor do I want to be called a racist or privelidged just because of my skin color. Sound familiar?

Diversity, in today's world, is mandatory because if the truth comes out and your company isn't " Diverse " enough, the media will crucify you for it.

Gosh, I’m hoping the lad isn’t calling me a narrow minded dinosaur, that would truly hurt my feelings!

But here’s how it stacks up, the dinosaurs that have been here a good while, like me, we’re mentored by those that came before us.....and believe it or not, we learned a few things by those “dinosaurs.” I know, that’s certainly a moment to shake your head and say, How can that be? “The new generations” just wont accept that that as a viable concept.

I have mentored, perhaps a dozen or more, Gen Xers and Millennials, to learn current, and even older methods to create short cuts (I lovingly call it hacking my way) to skip to completion of a project sooner and efficiently.

They in turn, perhaps even you @eai, will be asked to lead a new generation to challenge with new ideas....consider it a call to duty. I retire soon, I wish you the best, but if you ever over hear a “younger” call you a dinosaur, just smile like ya didn’t hear a thing, and go back to work.

The only good is to win customers from those groups. Meritocracy is much preferred and superior to diversity in hiring and promotion for company performance

Really is beneficial ask the new generations coming. That is why dinosaur narrow mindedness die off for good and new ideals emerge. Long live new ideas and out with the old scrooges. Love forever and always.

Do different "life experiences" really promote "diversity in ideas"? Good ideas?

Can you give me some "fer instances" in a corporate setting?

Keep in mind diversity as promoted by our culture is really skin color/race/s-xual orientation. Different ideas usually are not promoted/supported unless it agrees with certain things aka politically correct. Don’t agree? Ask chic-filet or the past CEO of mozilla.

They don’t discriminate. They treat all of their employees like cr*p no matter what their background is.

Diversity is good because it promotes diversity in ideas because of different life experiences. But, it also promotes discrimination against highly qualified white males. It’s sort of like corporate affirmative action.
