I swear I haven't heard one single positive sentence about block scheduling. On the other hand, at work people seem to be complaining mug less. Of course, nobody liked it, but folks seem to be adapting and it looks like they made their peace with this implementation. Is block scheduling really that bad, or are people on this site blowing this out of proportion?

Its garbage and disruptive to the workers because sams does not want to hire more people to man the clubs
Costco has been using this system/program for quite some time. They get the same comments those who have to close hate it because they feel they are taking the brunt of everything. Openers hate it because the closers, who get to spend half of their shift with no members always seem to do less.
If you are a closer you will know who the openers are and can swap shifts. If your days off do not line up find someone to swap shifts again and ensure they get their days off in row just like you and guess what?
The program is designed to make scheduling fair and consistent for all. The old system favored those who wanted set schedules with limited availability who also wanted everything a full timer got but doing the minimum.
What days of the week and hours are sales highest?
For a few Good. For most bad. Evening shift Bad. Very bad. Never quality time with family on closing shift. And for most zero weekends. It is good to have a set schedule. Same days off and same hours. weekly and daily. But when those hours and days keep you from time with family it really is awful.
In an effort to appear as though they care for the workers and to appear as though they listen to the associate concerns HO has found a way to give associates what they want without actually giving them what they want. Sort of like asking a genie for a million dollars and he does except it is a million monopoly dollars.
Just never forget that when management says they are doing something good for the associates it is almost always universally bad. Some will benefit but only some.
It works because there will be more coverage on the floor. However, the shifts my not be suitable for some with family. I for one used to drop my child off at daycare at 6:30 and then picked him up by 4:00. Now how can I find day care at 4:30 in the morning to be at work at 5:00.
As long the hours work with your home life it's great in most cases that isn't happening
The closing shift would keep parents from seeing there kids 5 days a week during the school year.
I think any program that has an all or nothing mentality is doomed to fail. Things come up. Lord knows YOU are expected to be flexible and drop everything when needed but there will never be quid pro quo
