I’m thinking of trying to step down as a store manager and coast as an ops/ shift until I find another job. Anyone ever heard of this? Hopefully my DL doesn’t shoot it down.

I’m also thinking of stepping down.. working on my rx modules so I can go into rx since they have better hours. I’ve been in fs various positions for about 20 years. I’m trying to start a family but I know there is no work life balance as a manager.
I am someone who was a store manager and actually a paragon winner who ended up in a horrible store and stepped down. I begged to go to another store but the new DL would not listen. I ended up being a supervisor now I’m the admin ($20/hour). If I stepped down to an ops I would have been at $21.75/hour but when I stepped down I had another job so I took shift supervisor for $17.50.
Most of the really good managers in my district have already found other employment. One stepped down and is still working. Why stay and reward CVS
Get out!!! There are no actual store managers with CVS...your just a store worker with a title..just look at Walgreens...store managers are not on the schedule...their stores always look better than ours...if your doing truck and planograms your not a store manager
The main issue is, they seem to want OPs as being able to be promoted. So it looks like a shift sup. Have a plan and work it.If you are thinking about doing it it is probably affecting your healrh/personal life. Dont go down in one of these places or any other.
I know people who were former store managers, stepped down to a lesser position, and are still with the company, so yes it IS your decision if you step down or not.
Management at ANY level at CVS is hell.
Sounds like your already coasting.
As Store manager of a mid volume
Well still min hours store , I swear
Ive got the easiest job - not much to delegate as we do most of work.
But mainly it's communication and training and pushing your shifts to help you get the job done .
If you can't lead your team , and at times have the tough discussions , yes you need to step down. This job is about repetition (same thing over and over). If you have a plan , execute it and stay on track (even if you fall behind) a little at times , it's not at all easy but it's doable . Ive felt like u before , but just worked a little extra and got caught up and felt so much better.
I stepped down a few years back and I’m much happier now. But it’s not for everybody.
Two questions to answer before you step down:
-
Can I live on less money?
-
Can my pride/ego handle it?
I answered yes to both, and I’m happy. The managers I have worked for appreciate my knowledge and hard work.
Sorry for all of you who say it should be your decision. You don’t decide if someone gives you a job someone else does.
You apply then either you get it or you don’t. Not your decision.
“Should be your decision” ... laughable
Don’t step down. Just leave. The moment you start thinking about stepping down is the moment you stop contributing to the success of this company.
Here’s my two cents, look for a job as a manager, which looks better on resume. Option b ask to step down which will be granted or denied, and if granted you’ll get a pay decrease. Option 3 ask to step down if they say no, then go on stress leave get paid tax free and look for another job. Cvs blows, time to work the system.
Not gonna happen unless it is their choice , they will now run you off first
Best thing I ever did at this company. Now I can leave each day and not worry about a thing.
I don’t know of any law that says you can’t step down. I am sure the DL will fight it, as there is a desperate need for store managers at cvs. However, it should be your decision.
That should be your decision. But it’s an interesting question. My guess is a DL will definitely have an opinion on this.
if your DL is stupid he might let you do it.
