Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Keep your options open!

If there are no engineering jobs, move to something completely different. I'm 50 now, I know my days are numbered. I don't expect to have my corporate job that much longer, the writing is on the wall. One thing is for sure, I'm not going to keep beating on doors when there is no chance of someone answering. I'll bartend, paint, landscape or drive a truck! Keep the money flowing to your investments and reduce your cost. Hell become a handyman. You are an engineer, figure it out!!

Good advice from @YHXxIXg-2myg.

Everyone becomes a ditch digger at some point. A technical degree is only good for so long anymore. Don't over pay for it, and don't expect to be able to continue working after 50 and you won't be surprised.

So having spent time working for GM has ruined your resume and reduced you to working as a ditch digger.
