17 year nurse....the job changed. The FCM role wasn’t needed because of the kindred deal and contracting out, Humana is not run on a hospital model, but a business model. If a school had 30 teachers and then they either had lower enrollment and less classes for the teachers to teach, or a new school opened up so there were less classrooms to teach in, the schools would try to accommodate as able, but the teachers may get laid off. This is reality all over the place. Humana doesn’t owe you a job, or a lifetime of employment. Your job will change based on needs. Have you looked at your employment paperwork? Yes, there’s a job description, but also wording of flexibility so they can move you around, based on what you can offer them...what your skills and assets are related to their evolution. So, 17 year nurse, if you want to be an FCM, awesome, but, Humana isn’t the place to be it anymore. SNP, HCCP? It’s gonna get worse, healthcare for years has been told do more with less, it’s Medicare and Medicaid and reimbursement issues. Affordable care act being impacted? That can impact SNP. That’s not Humana. That’s business decisions based on real dollars and if Humana can pay a salary. Not happy? Not what you expected? Don’t feel security? Unrealistic metrics? Don’t feel well-being? Leave! Stop complaining, realize this is beyond you and your role, and it’s your life, find another job somewhere else. Complaining is not changing anything, decisions on departments and RIFs are based entirely on business models and plans and humanas needs and how you serve Humana. They then compensate you for your service. If you don’t like it, go. Live your life. If Humana isn’t right for you, find something that is.

Last poster, very ignorant statement. HCM RN’s are able to do HCM SS job, but HCM SS are not able to do ours. Numerous insurance companies who employ nurse case managers obviously see our value as well.

If you're a nurse you should be in a hospital. Case Management is for social workers.

Unrealistic? In 17 yrs of nursing, I’ve never had my job duties change so drastically. If I’m hired for a job, that’s the job I intend to do. You must remember how many FCMs accepted the position not just for flexibilty. Maybe the home environment is not the proper atmosphere to conduct professional calls. I personally like 1:1 face to face contact, not tele calls reviewing what nonclinicals already competed.

Response... I was moved until my last day. I WAS laid off! Why move us, train us for a new position, and send new equipment for such a temporary job?

Clarification: those that were moved, were not guaranteed that they would be kept and not let go in April. It would be a different scenario if there had been some security that came with the move.

So you were moved to a telephonic role and you're upset? You could have been laid off. Go find a other flexible job where you get paid to do the bare minimum.

So would you have rather been laid off because that was the only other option. Your role was ending and rather than just cutting you loose you were offered another opportunity. How is that a bad thing? I would have jumped at the opportunity of a new position when I was laid off. If it's not your cup of tea then leave and go find another "flexible" job. To expect everything to remain the same in whatever job you have is unrealistic.

In response to the comment about tele not being flexible.... you helped prove my point. When we were hired for a flexible field position and moved to a tele position against our will, it becomes a problem. In the field, we were flexible as long as we worked our 40 hrs. And met productivity. So why would we stay in a position that we didn’t apply to do?

Why do you think you should have flexibility? Tele associates actually work all day, kind of like working the floor in a hospital. If you want your precious flexibility go work PRN in home health. WAH does not equal make a few phone calls in between running errands and driving your kids all around town.

Nope... not doing it. This job is a joke. I became a nurse to help people not administer questionnaires and chart repetitively. Not a flexible job at all!
