Lay-off Package Reward for Staying the Course?

Any speculation that the remaining layoff packages will be better than last year to reward the employees for remaining loyal to GE and helping turn the business around? Flannery and Stokes told us why to remain; pride, commitment, desire to see this through together rather than jump ship early on. There is precedent with other businesses for sticking around until the end. Though I hope the end here is not the end of GE.

The reward will go to your boss for keeping you around so they could s--- the remaining life out of you before sending you out the door with nothing. Good luck with that.

Company loyalty bonus?! Are you serious?

This reminds me of Boxer, the faithful and hardworking horse in the book "Animal Farm", who collapses from overwork. The pigs say they have sent him to a veterinarian, when they actually have sent him to the knacker's yard to be slaughtered, in exchange for money to buy a case of whiskey for the pigs to drink.

Not only are you a fool to think you'll get some sort of "Loyalty" bonus if you get let go, but you're an id--t for even sticking around when it's obvious that GE is sinking!! You want to be loyal to a sinking ship, go right ahead. More room on the life boat for those of use with brains and marketable skills. Some of us graduated high school instead of dropping out for a GED, and aren't afraid of the real world. The only people who could have made a difference and saved GE, got tired of the c-ap and already left.

My boss has uttered often very belittling statements. He says things to demotivate us and make us feel like worms.

My boss has uttered often that as an Engineer I am a "tool for production" - a machine with a cognitive feature. I have zero illusions that there is any loyalty and that as soon as I am no longer immediately useful to the short term needs of GE I will be dispensed with - that is the GE culture. No action, no so called "loyalty" will be rewarded.

I have been told that those who hang on past the turnaround can expect to get leadership positions when hiring resumes. Fact.

Any official and unofficial communication from leaders I have been privy to was always designed to ensure outcomes favorable to the company and management, not to employees. I have no illusions about what to expect.

No. If it isn’t obvious already there is no loyalty to you from the company. Just because you didn’t look for a new job doesn’t mean they’ll reward you. Source: given lay-off letter recently and it was the bare minimum.

Yes. I think we all deserve a package for staying with GE and helping to turn the business around.
