Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Not interested in working at Beaumont

What a dumb idea. Yeah, I'll take a job at Beaumont medical after leaving the automotive industry as an engineer. Running errands for some nurse is exactly what I need after being 86'd by GM.

I worked at Beaumont IT before joining GM several years ago. The pay wasn't bad but the benefits were pretty poor in comparison. And get used to working holidays.

Beaumont isn’t the same place it was years ago, Oakwood is currently calling the shots and burying what Beaumont was.

Nothing but a free commercial for Beaumont.

Based on the salaries I saw posted in an earlier thread, it would appear that GM salaries are extremely competitive and having to look at a job elsewhere is going to yield some disappointing results. Interested to see how many people actually leave after the bonuses are paid off this year.

unless you have medical background its gonna be tough to switch fields unless your skillset is universal such as IT

Beaumont pays a lot less than GM does. Also, the benefits are a bit lacking compared to the General. They have some layoffs occasionally, but the work is more stable than GM. The IT folks are usually looking for jobs elsewhere, yet, they seem to stick around for some reason.

I know an industrial engineer who works on process improvement in medical coding. There’s a lot of room for efficiency gains in hospitals, the jobs aren’t all what you’d expect.

If I had a chance to get out of automotive I would in a heartbeat. I applied outside of automotive and got nowhere. I’m in engineering so I’m sure there’s plenty of competition on the outside.
