Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Heartless. Let's hope next time management has a little more sympathy

I was at GM from 2011-2013... as a contractor I did see direct and contractor getting cut.. they gave me reviews to my contract house.. all excellent.. even got a small raise.. I did every thing to be a top performer, then they just cancelled my contract out of the blue.. my EGM said I shouldn't be upset or disappointed since I was just the temp guy and it was just the temp job. I felt like a s---er, I should have came in every day and just did average work.

It's clear from these posts that GM feels the same way about the direct employees.

XwC9vPU-lnb. Excellent post. Let's hope these lessons aren't soon forgotten in how easily everyone is replaced.

The vsp targeted people with 12+ years experience.

That's older people only, and is illegal age discrimination.

Blaming older people for not resigning so GM wouldn't also lay off NCHs to try to hide the age discrimination is disgusting.

Let's be honest as much as it may hurt. The entire reason why this layoff was so big, was because not enough salaried persons took the buyout. If you want to be completely fair and transparent, it's entirely their fault that so many outside of their demographic were affected.

WTF dude ... Contractor roles are explicitly temporary. I'd rather that any company cuts off its contractors before affecting regular employees.
