Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

TRACK program

As someone who finished TRACK last year I’m not sure how you believe TRACK employees will lead GM into the future. Most (myself included) are completely clueless until someone shows them the ropes. I felt the program was a waste of time and I got little out of it. If it wasn’t for senior engineers that took the time to help me develop then I would be useless. I know people about to finish school that have TRACK offers to start this summer. GM should cancel those offers and retain knowledgeable engineers instead of people with little experience. The only downside to this would future candidates avoiding GM.

All the TRACK engineers that came through our department left with very little. You may call it hopeful, but if you recall from grade school, how much did you really retain? Hopium and reality are two very different things. In the end, GM is betting on this as a success.

Anyone remember the design engineer program? How well did that work out?

The OP sounds like a bitter Engineer that didn’t go through the track program posing as a track student

Most of the TRACK engineers ive worked with (GPS) were great. Some went to school for something totally different (ie. Mechanical Engineer writing software) but still contributed. I appreciate them getting a broad base of knowledge as those pieces of knowledge and connections pay off down the line. Everyone at GM that I work with complains that we don’t train well, and TRACK is an excellent training program if nothing else.

This is natural. No young person knows business until someone teaches them how to do things.
