Transition: Legacy Developer to New Cloud tech Ones

Lot of talk in this group about moving out of Oracle. What are suggestions for someone who has spent 10-15-20 years in Oracle working on legacy technologies. Which skills are more desired in new cloud technologies that could fetch you a new job? Anyone wish to share an experience or plan? ,

Doesn’t hurt to have at least dabbled in every cloud environment: AWS, Google, Microsoft.

Employers are using a mix of these in many cases. Also the respective databases, so it’s good to know those too.

Where I work now, the skills in demand are AWS, Docker, Chef, Puppet.

I am not a developer. But that's what I see in our job postings at my new place

Take the online udemy course on AWS. I don't go for the certification jive myself but just learning the material is valuable and they do a good job of presenting it. It's not free but worth the small fee.

So, I wonder what sort of w-------rr downvoted the original post? I can certainly live with my response being downvoted since it is the matter of opinion but the question had merit. Well, karma has been known to bite people on the arse...

Also you can’t go wrong with AWS, you can get a free tier for a year (with limitations) but you can do a lot of learning in a short time on that.

There are also some free courses for AWS that will create an account for you for the course, though those classes are pretty short but did cover things line API gateway, Lambda, S3, etc. Also checkout Git if you haven’t been exposed to it.

The tech I focused on were React, Docker, Node, and MongoDB. This of course is dependent on what you want to do and whether you are looking to move out of the area you were in.

Just my 2 cents, I am sure you’ll get more ideas. Moving into DevOps did the trick for me. Microservices, Kubernetes and related technologies, some python and Go to supplement couple of decades of Java.
