Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Taking the 60 days option after getting the boot on Monday, are you required to actually work during this time?

That is between you and your supervisor. I know a guy that placed an out of office message that stated he had been surplussed and is currently seeking a new job and listed his replacement as the contact. I thought it was pretty funny. I was a part of that same layoff and my supervisor kept telling me to relax and look for another job. He offloaded my work to others and in return I told him I would do any requests he had that needed immediate attention. Its important that you go through all of the paperwork that is required for your exit and make sure it gets completed. Also attend HR calls regarding the layoff.

Nope. Your job is finding a new job. If you desire to stay and are looking internally, of course, it doesn't hurt to do some work. If you're not planning to stay then by all means check out. Good luck.

No, Legally, you are off the job when you get notice and the 60 days is for finding a new job.

I am doing the minimum...and I don't have to say I am stressed out...goes without saying that even the people who did not get voted off the island this round are stressed out. The whole thing is all about leadership and how to make their numbers as none of their other moves were wise. It looks desperate to me

I was told by my boss to use the time to find a job. I’ve been through many of these surpluses over the last 20+ years and no one really was expected to work anywhere close to normal once they were notified. Tell the boss you are an emotional wreck and need time to think and look at your job options.

You’re good until you get caught... check with the boss... ...but if you ask and are told “yeah you gotta work...” ... now they’ll be watching your productivity... best of luck

Try not to get fired by steering clear of COBC violations.

I am checking email and career path daily but not really engahed. Of course the folks left behind will say keep working, but when their turn comes, they will understand having the wind taken out of your sail. If you did not get expectations in writing and it is not made clear, some managers may continue to push you - just make finding a job (internal and external) your priority.

You're still employed during that time, so yes you're still required to work. How hard you work, that's up to you.

yes, you do, since they will have your performance review upon your exit, and it will be used against you until the very last day. T will always gets you, even on your way out!!

It depends on your supervisor. Some on this site who were surplussed in previous rounds say that their supervisors let them use their time to find a new job; I know that wouldn't happen in my work group.
