Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What happens to the ones that are eligible for retirement?

I have a question as I am seeing that I don't understand how this works. Are those people with 29, 32, 34, and 40 years, whom I assume are retirement eligible, able to retire after they get this call, or is it too bad and so sorry you almost made it? I am hoping that the company is letting those whom are eligible to retire.

I am a cable splicer in a very large area and have 24 years of service. I am the top in seniority in my crew and am on the top 7 in my entire district. As far as that goes, I feel that we are still a very much needed component to building the infrastructure. We didn't get any notifications yesterday. It is my understanding that if some sort of surplus were to hit our side of the business, that they would start at inverse seniority. Is this still true? I desperately need to get my 30 years in since I started with Southwestern Bell at the age of 21. I will be too young to leave with anything less than 30.

I hope that the company is letting those with the eligibility to retire to do so.

I was wondering the same thing as @Xl01QZ3-1kmi . Does anyone have any info or advice?

@rew not exactly

AT&T modified rule of 75

OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW

The AT&T modified rule of 75 can be misleading since not every combination of 75 points applies.

For example, let’s assume you have 24 years of service and are age 51. Although the combination adds up to 75 (24+51=75), you do not qualify because you fail to meet both minimum requirements at each breakpoint.

50 and 25 years

55 and 20 years

65 and 10 years these are the “breakpoints”

Really, there are a lot of people who don't seem to have any clue about their retirement. If you escaped yesterday's shellacking, you better start figuring it out.

I was cut on 4/6/18. started my pension on 5/1/2018. Got my retirement party. Started a new job on 5/16/18. Life is greener on the outside. Love my new job.

Anyone who meets the modified rule of 75, service+age >= to 75 is eligible for retirement benefits provided either management, or per the current Union bargaining agreement. + they get their severence upon signing a the forms that says you won't sue the company regarding your employment.

Unless CWA has something we don't in IBEW, it will always go inverse seniority for craft. U- verse is the only one that I know that has something a bit different.

Good luck. I hope you make it. FYI a craft pension at only 30 years isn’t enough to live on. Hang in there and shoot for 40.

Bad Troll! Bad Troll! Just go away.

You really expect anyone to believe that you worked for the company for 24 years and yet you have no idea how any of this works? Troll or just stupid
