Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

I got an offer to be promoted to COS from my CM.

I got an offer to be promoted to COS from my CM. Im a grocery sales floor associate should I take it ? is it worth it, especially with all the new possible changes coming to the salesfloor. COS seems to be one of the only safe jobs in the club, with the exception of the lead COS. any and all opinions welcomed thank you.

@1drj with that pessimistic thought process you could really say that about any company.

I’ve worked several positions in my club and COS was by far my favorite. If I ever took a step down from TL I would take COS!

@ XhxGMON-dnd our lead COS is hardly ever on the floor. Does all the schedules in the club and responsibilities of the PTC

It’s a fast paced job and can be stressful if the schedule isn’t done correctly. Just ask to try it out for a couple days

@dnd HA! Isn't that crazy? They say you're not supposed to do it, but they do nothing to stop it. Don't we have some great management ladies and gentlemen?

I know with my CM they have hours to hire more people but she won't. She saves those hours for her emergency freak outs, and forces OT to people. And she tries to show HO that her store does so great with less people. But what does HO do? Lower the hours given out because they aren't being used. Then she freaks out even more. They really should give these people some proper training. I haven't met a single one that's actually really good at their job.

It is demanding. Plus, Credit, dealing with cashiers and members. As a new COS, you get the hours no one else wants. Usually evenings, which goes late into the night because of forced zoning. If your schedule says you work until 8:30pm, but you will be there for an extra couple hours supervising cashiers who are zoning. The position has good points. It can be a stepping stone to Team Lead, which can be used to make assistant manager. I liked the pressure of being a COS. I made Team Lead a couple months ago. Not sure if where you work, you can be cross trained as a COS before you actually say yes to the job. That way, you can see what's what and make an informed decision. Our manager allows this.

Oh to add my previous post. According to a Market AP Manager MSS are not supposed to do everything I listed except stay on the front-end and run to do overrides only. And company direction on the MSS says we're not even supposed to jump on as a cashier.

But how the real world club works is much different.

One day they want 25 upgrades. The next they want 20 credits. Down your throat. Then the next day they don't say a word. So productivity can be a tricky thing. Learning everything is what you'll end up having to do. Membership, t-b-cco, cafe (cafe cash kiosk if you have them), jewelry, club pick-up and carts, gas station and CFTs from the cash recycler. You just have to be prepared to deal with the craziness of members and associates.

I don't have an issue with them being down my throat about productivity because all we can do is try.

But be prepared to be the underpaid backbone of the front-end.

No I dont believe you should go to the front end. Way to much pressure and you have to deal with so many different attitudes cashiers that is. Lots of pressure with getting upgrades. Dealing with upset members. Having to run the register when someone calls in. The only good thing is time will go by fast. Look at all the pros and cons before choosing. That manager may just want you up there because they know you can handle it. But remember that manager want always be over you. They are choosing you to make their life easier not yours.

Not worth it unless you are getting at least a $5.00 per hour raise which we all know can’t and won’t happen. Nothing appealing about that job at all.

Cos wont go away soon nor will floor associates. Be prepared to push plus and credit every day, so if you struggle to do that, you will hate it. Also depends on the CM, if hes not down the MEMs throat over those numbers, it's a much more enjoyable job. Fast paced, problems at each step. Choose Wisely.
