Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Got my first 25% off retirement phone bill

I worked for PacTel > AirTouch > Verizon Wireless for 25 years in the So Cal region. I got riff-ed in 2015, and just retired (after 25 years).

My 50% employee phone discount was literally the only benefit I took with me (well, I stole my tablet too).

Now I'm down to a 25% discount, and all I can say is, hello T Mobile.

Take Verizon for every penny you can, because they'll sure take you for it.

Worst part is, there are customers getting better discounts than the employees.

I think I know the OP from Irvine. He spent most of his time hunting and fishing on the company dime.

Smartest guy I event met.

"You stole your company tablet???"

Yep, and padded my p-card account too. Even stayed a few extra nights when I traveled.

My only regret, is that I didn't take more.

25% is an insult to all the retired employees that helped build the company. Very sad that many retirees will switch to other carriers because they are more competitive then a “retiree” plan.

"Are you saying the 50% discount continued for 3 years after RIF? I thought it goes away almost immediately. Can you please clarify?"

As a retiree from Verizon Wireless, yes the %50 was in place until Jan 1 of this year. As long as you had 75 points (age plus years of service).

The only other retirement benefit I got was the ability to buy health insurance at 25% of what the free market was charging.

Depends on the phones but alot of Verizon phones are cross compatible and already unlocked. For example, Iphone 6s and newer, all Google Pixel models, Galaxy S8 and newer, etc.

Won't you need new devices when you switch we have 5 of them, not an easy thing.

I switched to T-Mobile quickly after the VSP as well. For Military/Veterans it’s 50% off their Unlimited Plan. No way I could see paying the high price to continue Verizon’s service.

I'm a VSPer...moved to t mobile on Jan 3rd. My husband is over 55 so we have the senior plan... It's a good plan, no contact, free roaming in Canada and Mexico
