Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Don't wait it out here - the promotions will never happen

Been at ORCL for 15 years and I'm an IC (now). I chose to move out of management because I couldn't stand lying to my team and misleading them that there was a opportunity to move ahead and get any pay increases. I was an M4 and was told by my immediate management who to "promote" and when. To be very clear - there are very few promotions that have a title change AND base pay raise. 95% of the title changes are in name only, there is no change in pay and that's very deliberate. It has absolutely nothing to do with the skills, efforts, education or contributions of the person - it is 100% management perception of your "willingness to support the current regime" and if you're "hooked up" with higher management. So all the hard working people with the altruistic views of contributing to the good of the company - you're not going to get rewarded. Not here in this company with this "leadership". So if that's important to you, you need to find another company that will give you the promotions and pay you deserve. Don't wait it out here - it will never happen.

This is a repost from @XbSLPjU-2foa . Thought more people should see this, as it is the sad truth, spoken from a person who is familiar with the situation “first hand”. Thanks, OP.

I've seen people forced back into IC from management but I don't think I've seen anyone choose to move unless it was a big move to a new area maybe. I've thought about it. I'm an M4 with over 15 years (and apparently a bad manager by some jerk's measurement on here), but here's a thought: don't lie to your team. They are adults, they can handle the truth and they probably know or suspect it anyway. Also, all areas are different in their approach to promos and even to raises apparently. No one tells me who to promote. Of course, there are approvals but only IC5/IC6 and M3 get additional scrutiny and that always p-ss-d me off anyway because the denials were always arbitrary. I've promoted IC's almost every year but because of hiring freezes, eventually you run out of people to promote and IC5 promotions are tougher to do. Promotions and raises are no longer linked. That's the reality of it. They were for many years, they are not now. There is nothing M3-6 can do about that. I decide who gets promoted and I'm honest with people about what is required and we work on it together. Almost every person on my team has received at least one promotion - and the 2 that have not, have a plan for it. There is nothing but conspiracy theory linking promotion to supporting the current regime because beyond my M5, I certainly do not support the current regime - maybe that's why I won't make M5 ever in this role (yes, I'm buying into the conspiracy theory).

the HR dept re posts these things to run people off.

the mantra at oracle HR is to drive churn of the talented and expensive team members while also hard charging for acquisition of new or foreign "cheap"(er) employees. Talent is not a prerequisite of new cheap labor force. Just butts in seats working the phones or troubleshooting coders who do not look forward but only are task driven. Its no diff than an assembly line of drones.
