Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

First notifictions of 2019 likely at the end of the month (warning: rumor/opinion)

Trying to stay true to the original purpose of this board, some scuttlebutt I learned from former colleagues - this might apply to only my old market, but more likely not. This is 2nd-hand, but sounds plausible enough:

There will be no more affected/non-affected workgroup calls. (Conclusion: All workgroups will be affected.)

2015 involuntary severance policy remains in place. (Conclusion: AT&T will not match Verizon's separation incentives.)

Selections for 2019 have already been discussed and made by management by directors and higher.

Volunteering was offered to cover the pension lump sum end of March reduction. Going forward, they can will say you had your chance.

Also, there will be no more opportunities to volunteer for selection - the choice is being made for you.

(Conclusion: If you are not selected, choosing to depart/retire will be characterized as "voluntary" with no post-employment benefits, and affect your unemployment eligibility.)

There are only sales and phone store positions. But you can play along for the extra pay and 1 month of insurance.

I had doubts on the 1/28 notification date that has been widely circulated here, as our group had not been told anything. That said, our AM just confirmed it.

That is true. Jan 28 is the notification date. Those who choose not to look internally for a job are off payroll Feb 18 (3 weeks) and those that look internally are off in 8 weeks which is before the March 31 deadline to get the 2018 pension calculation if it applies to your legacy pension
