Salary and the UAW

Anyone know why salary folks never joined the UAW? What's the story behind that.

I'd rather pay for Mass public transit than some stupid wall. Think about it ,let's build Chevy Blazer in Mexico and a wall to keep out Mexicans , Trump and Barra seem to go hand in hand as professional liers and hot air blowers , must be the same sacred fraternity - "Balls and shaft" 🤥 Screw buying cars I want trains and the bus , cross country bullet train and local I'd pay for that , not a WALL.

Yes Ross Perot spoke Trump's message years ago, and he was right.

UAW brand is death to a hot engineer. Any other union not good for that either (Silicon Valley hackers have none), but if to organize, a different one would be better.

Geeeeeeee I guess little old Ross Perot was correct all those years ago , the giant s---ing sound ! Remember kids? First time I was legally able to vote it was Ross. GM has bigger plans that obviously do NOT include America. Electric cars ,excuse . Question for electrical engineering folks , how will and where is the electric power and infrastructure for all of this , nuclear , coal ? I'd like to know thoughts.

GM and Firestone conspired to destroy mass transit in America in the 1930s and 1940s.

See "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" for a fictionalized version of a true story.

I'll pay more in taxes for it , bring it Michigan. I'll use it in the winter , sleep on the way to work , that's my autonomous vehicle. Then summer motorcycle , Harley , Triumph , Zuki. I will park my brand new Honda Civic or Tesla in the garage and use it strictly for vacation and the weekends.

If Detroit needs mass transit, then they or the state of Michigan should raise taxes to pay for it.

Detroit needs mass transit now , the full length of telegraph road for starters.

What's Germany's trade balance?

What's America's trade balance?

Who's doing better in this competitive world?

Typical engineering project in EU takes 20% more heads than US due to work and travel rules. In competitive world you don't want to be union if not on asm line that stops. Competition is rough but better job security.

Unions work and if these were in place, the reductions would have been handled differently. Also the UAW has a better health plan too. When the leadership takes advantage of its workers does unionism comes into play. The advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Then you are treated unfairly does this thought come into play.

How can we make it not , rotten? How can we all help each other to make it better and not turn against one another? With every negative is a positive , can we achieve this? The deck is stacked high clearly , I think we can do it and make it right if we pull hard together.

Same , job security for my family . I feel that the marketing for GM is in need of serious work , at this point I don't see the company improving their image after all of this , especially considering they let go many talented contract and salary people go just before Christmas time , I will never ever forget this. Globalization is fine and dandy , however the home front should come first in this case America and the people that built this country , so cursory review , corporations have way to much power , GM has not only destroyed their reputation but has managed to piss off the consumer and the very people that develop and create the vehicles ! We as the motor City put the world on wheels Detroit! So now GM is telling us , screw you guys we are taking our ball someplace else ? What is our government doing ? Blowing hot air and waiting for the dust to settle , like it never happened. In my opinion the fact Michigan has unemployed folks is Rediculous! We deem you are making way to much money , we are leaving the country. Our government is irresponsible and have let to much go out of our country for far to long , where is the accountability? Maybe they want us to live in cages like the poor people of China , have you seen Hong Kong? Perhaps that is the plan for the US next. What are the tax payers of this country really paying for ? Hot air and BS? Have we become that passive ? UAW couldn't make it worse , I think it would help protect our families and I want in.

Does the union keep GM from closing plants? I am sure it would help with income equality and pay for overtime but job security is the key issue for me and my family. It seems that path is paved thru products and services consumers are demanding. Much of the marketing and product planning is out of the union control. With globalization of the auto industry moving out if country is the way unions are circumvented. Not like the 1950s anymore. Wish like hell it was.

The CAD designers tried in 94 or 95 and it got voted down. GM fought hard so it wouldn't pass.

To IPE , I couldn't have said it better myself and you are absolutely correct. These engineering folks think it's a taboo subject , well I know quiet a few that do not. I am in and want a union like Boeing , GM has to much control over people and have destroyed alot of good people , how can we achieve this union? What will it take? The future generations need to be protected.

Most engineers think they're smarter than everyone else and can negotiate better salaries on their own, and unions only protect bad employees.

These people are both arrogant and wrong.

Unions, ideally, are there to hold companies to some standard of fairness, and make them follow their own rules.

Companies hate this, and do everything to discourage unions, including feeding the egos of the immature employees to make them think they're better off dealing with the company by themselves.

Note that Boeing has an engineer's union, and it works very well.

How can GM salary people become part of the Union ? I'm in ! Can we actually make this happen because I have been curious also? We have zero protection from anything , I feel the company is always talking about home we should be accountable and win with integrity , shouldn't they follow the same path? What can we as a body of skilled people do in this case? I could be wrong but I don't think the uaw backing us would hurt anymore than what has and continues to transpire.
