Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Be aggressive in finding the next opportunity

There is a poster here who claims inside information that the site is closing this year. However the lease is through 2022 with a very costly penalty to break it. There are rumors that they could consolidate into two of the three buildings and lease the other building to another company.

I know it feels like you just want it over with already, but you really don’t. The last thing the local job market needs is another influx of workers with similar skill sets looking for jobs that really don’t exist around here anymore. I’d hang on at Wells until you no longer can, but I would absolutely be doing everything in your power to craft powerful resumes, boost your LinkedIn profile, network and explore other companies in the area. Be ready for when that day comes and don’t for a second hang out while on severance. Be aggressive in finding the next opportunity.

Thought this was well said. Posted originally by @XJSfSKh-vjz .

The top part is about the Frederick site, however I’m sure it could apply to a vast number of other sites that don’t appear to be in the future plans of the company.

What buildings in what location are you talking about? What job types are you talking about?

Your post makes no sense to most of us.

The same can be said about not having a graduate degree. A requirement for many open job positions, or they say similar work experience. I have worked with people at various companies who had a graduate degree in something like Economics or Finance. However they were let go from their positions at the company because they did not have the skills to do the job they were hired for, like being GREAT at computer programming, business requirements analysis, testing, etc.

I completely agree with you. I have a friend who was laid off from WF last summer and is upset they can't find a job that pays what WF paid. I told her it would be difficult to find a job that pays the same without a degree and that she may need to take what she can for now. If I am laid off I plan to go back to school and take what job I can to get by.

It was me who originally posted that and I’m fine with it being reposted, but just thought of something else I’d like to add.

Many of us skated through Wells Fargo on our merit with a lack of college education. Anything short of a bachelors outside of Wells Fargo will have you desperately on the outside looking in. Even though you have more life and professional experience, many of the HR tracking systems will severely ding you for not having a degree if move you along at all. Don’t be like some of us and merely assume the positions you look at could be yours because you have the experience, skill set and qualifications they are looking for. You may very well have to look at taking a step back and starting from the ground up again. You should most likely qualify for TAA assistance as a result of Wells moving so many jobs out of the country. This could extend your unemployment benefits to 12 months and pay for you to go to school to learn a new trade or even finish the college degree you never got around to. My main point here is that you’re going to be sold a lot by Wells leadership, HR and even career transition firm they assign you. But at the end of the day, to another company you are merely a stranger with a lack of formal education. Do everything in your power to change that before it’s too late.
