Rehired after Layoff?

I was let go a year ago and have been wondering if anyones been rehired after being laid off due to headcount reduction. If you are a current employee, have you noticed this with any new hires? Just curious to hear some feedback. Thanks

I'd go back too. I don't have to work any longer, but the money would be good and would allow me to delay dipping into my retirement savings for however long the gig lasted.

I'd go back in a snap. Need a job. Loved my mgr. Loved my team. Enjoyed what I was doing and I have hard time finding a comparable job.

I know many folks are (rightly so) bitter, but this is how I feel.

I was laid off in mid-2017 with about 6 mos severance. On the 6 anniversary of my lay-off, I started getting calls/ emails from recruiters about contracting jobs for far less than my previous salary. I was one of those people who became redundant because of the XO acquisition. Fortunately, I had started a job at Amazon a few days before the recruiters started calling. I had the pleasure of telling them that if the id--t who replaced me wasn’t pulling her load, they should replace her rather than ask me to pick up the slack on the cheap. Apparently, they didn’t get the message because I still get regular calls to this day.

If you get a call for a contracting position, don’t take unless you have to. From what I’ve heard from others who have done it, they’ll never hire you back and you’re likely to be be cut before your contract ends when they hire a young minority to replace you.

It wasn't Verizon (yet), but I once took a buyout from GTE that specifically said I couldn't go back to work for GTE for a minimum of two years, period, end of story. I moved to a different area of the country and was working for a different company. Six months after I took the buyout, someone from GTE recruited me while I was on the job. When I told him about the agreement I signed, he told me if GTE wanted to rehire they'd rehire me and they did.

Unless things have changed a lot -- my guess is if they want you back, they'll find a way to get you back.

Yes you can come back in a contracting role. I know of two people that were laid off Nov 2017 that came back as consultants to VZW after about six months.
