Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Not layoffs exactly it's the PC word... Pay Cuts!

Funny that someone posted a request for a pay hike that went all the way up to LE, cause the plan is the opposite.

Rumor has it the executive team is looking for "growth" they cant seem to find it. Wall street likes growth. Oracle has only 3 Hopeful places where we don't really see a decline. Cloud in Oracle global rented datacenters for database back up an disaster recovery does make sense.

Some cloud based apps have a chance, and the Autonomous database is doing well. Funny how it comes full circle back to the database.

Stuff not growing will get the squeeze from the wizard of stinginess himself MH. It's not a new trick, but pay cuts and reduced benifits are on the way. It's cheaper than a layoff package. Get ready .

Sorry but the autonomous database does not work. Snowflake is way ahead of Oracle here.

“Since salaried don't get paid OT to begin with, why switch them to hourly?”

Some levels are non exempt and some are exempt. So what happened in the acquired company I worked for, if you were hourly, you couldn’t work OT. If you did, you had to put the case or project in a note on your timesheet. Many people just kept working as if they were exempt, tons of late hours to get the work done, but only put in for 40 hours. This is a form of wage theft.

"Moving technical roles to hourly, cutting bonuses and limiting overtime"

Since salaried don't get paid OT to begin with, why switch them to hourly?

"Allowing health benefits to slide and/or pushing more cost to employees"

To be fair, the health benefits are one of the few shining spots for O. I know plenty of people who work for other large corporations and all they are offered are miserly high deductible plans.

"Having a "green" program that makes employees take their trash out"

I have never seen this.

“Belt tightening” is the word right now. No travel, no PR approvals, and bonus/raises have been cancelled. Pay cuts or a massive RIF is almost certainly coming soon to an Oracle office near you.

They've been enacting paycuts for years all under the guise of a different name...

  • No raises allow the cost of living to take a toll

  • Moving technical roles to hourly, cutting bonuses and limiting overtime

  • Pulling the car allowance

  • Removing work from home reimbursement

  • Allowing health benefits to slide and/or pushing more cost to employees

  • Having a "green" program that makes employees take their trash out

  • Shift work to lower cost employees (e.g. India and college grads)

If pay cuts come about, it will just be a continuation of what MH has been doing for years at Oracle and throughout his entire career.

"MH has a track record for pay cuts. He aimed for a 1% pay cut at HP."

It was 5 percent, across the board, simply because profits were slightly down. Announced via a blastogram email from the HR VP. And it wasn't a temporary reduction either. Every time there was an email from her we all knew it was bad news. Another one that stands out was when they reduced FTO (flexible time off).

Can’t image one person MH screws up Ora all this year.

Cut the cheaters in the management, then the sh--ty employees will follow him.

It would be nice if somehow Oracle could find a way to make the sh--ty people leave.

Hey, how about real performance reviews? I've heard that's been used. Then, layoff (or fire) the right people for a change.

I don't know if the rumor is true, but it does make sense to do paycuts rather than layoffs. Cheaper for Oracle and gives the employees room to think about whether they want to continue to work there without being suddenly laid off.

On the other hand, paycuts will probably cause the better people to leave more quickly. The people who can't find a job anywhere else will then be left and the employee gene pool is then further depleted.

I thought Santa Clara where the lunatic asylum used to be was where the "crazies" were.

Funny you should mention Milpitas. When I lived there, we used to call it 'Mil'Sh--A$$ - that's what it smelt like :-) Now that's a dump....

I moved to Dallas (a dump according to the poster before) and couldn't be happier! My bank account thanks me daily. As they say, the weather doesn't pay the bills :-)

The hw 237 is stinky near Milpitas, and there are lots of 1+ million houses.

"expensive and full of crazies."

Problem is that any metro area with jobs is expensive. And crazies are everywhere.

"Texas is a dump, that's why it's cheap to live there."

The Bay Area is also a dump, an insanely expensive dump.

"Who wants to move to Austin? "

About 20,000 people per year, apparently.

And no, I'm not a Texan. The place is too hot and humid for my taste, but it does attract many, including Californians.

why don't Oracle just move staff to low cost areas. Like, Austin?

Remember when they took the car allowance away a few years ago - that was a $7,200 pay cut for pretty much everybody in the NA sales org. So, yeah, oracle has done that before and will do it again with yet another creative justification. Why are you all still there?
