Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Question

I was looking at reviews for other retailers on this website, including CVS’s competitors. I have to say, CVS employees complain the most... and seem the most hostile, unhappy, etc. what is the main reason for your disatisfation with your company?

That all sounds great, but that’s not how cvs operates. All aspects of stores are designed to run with the bare bones per cvs’s workload algorithms. Save your money on the postage and don’t bother wasting time and effort on something that has no chance of helping these god awful work conditions. We had a ceo that wanted to lead with heart and take care of colleagues. That individual is gone. The best solution for most retail store colleagues would be to look else where.

I'm a prior Aetna emp, so sorry to hear this. I hope that with a few Aetna directors on the new CVS board, esp Mark Bertolini, it can get better for you. I think you should write him, he has an address in Manhattan, but that it hard to find, he also has a home near the Hartford HQ if you search "West Hartford assessor database" you can find his address by his name. He raised the minimum pay at Aetna b/c he wants stability and workers to be treated properly. But I am afraid he may not know how it is to be in the trenches for you unless you let him know. The judge should be done reviewing the merger within a couple of weeks, then it will be final, no separate Aetna, but Mark is already on the CVS board. I think he listened to the "worker bees" at Aetna, and it is how change happened. I am very shocked they can take away health insurance any month depending on the hours. I never heard of that, but that is the kind of thing that he should know.

Supervisor, I was asked to get my tech liscense a year ago, now I know why. Declined even after I understood the need to get it.

Have helped out in pharmacy for many years. Then noticed the change in climate, felt so bad, horrible conditions, time frames. Pressure to work off the clock and majority of unhappy angry customer.

Explained to my manager my apprehension. Then FS was becoming just a stressful. Decided it was time, buisness was going through a long experimental change, new demanding policies with less hrs to accomplish. Boss was stressed and said I can do a job of 2 people now you need to do a job of 5.even demonstrated how to "walk", by leaping. thought it he was joking....

Anyway, pharmacy is by far more stressful. demanding huge responsibility with peoples welfare. Underpaid and overworked. You techs are smart great multi taskers, why do you stay?

Have a new job, less pay, no benefits but less stress.

I’ve personally had my health insurance turn off and on at random times based on hours I work. Despite being a full time employee willing to work as many hours as needed, hours provided to us are beyond our control. If I want to schedule a medical procedure, I have to keep my fingers crossed that I will average enough hours in the weeks leading up to it to have my health insurance turned on. Cue eye roll. Being a pharmacy tech is not half as easy as the company seems to think, and pharm techs all over retail are treated like entry level fast food workers. for that I can’t just blame cvs. It takes years to learn my job and you have to be smart and dedicated. The pay is simply too low. We have constant stress over patient safety issues as well as demanding customers. This is a complicated job and I shouldn’t be walking into gas stations seeing that they pay their employees the exact same way.

Most brick and mortar colleagues aren’t happy because of the way the company runs the stores we are one of the leanest retailers with unbelievable workloads. Store managers have no work life balance. If you’re salaried you need to work 6 12 hours day to barely have your head above water. You go into retail knowing it’s not Monday thru Friday 9-5, but not the way this company expects from you. It is unrealistic. There’s endless meetings for meetings, process for processes. The company is garbage.

CVS does have union stores. The Company is a tri fold. Their are:

1.Corprate stores

  1. Union A stores,

Most are old Savons.

Has the BEST benefits.

• Pay $84 mo, $40 are monthly union dues

• $ 44 mo. For insurance family plan, single is

$22. This includes different plans to choose from. I have Anthem PPO. This Includes Medical, scripts, Dental and Vision. with $20 co-pay.

  • This is why many stay. Have to work min.24 hrs week.

  • Union B stores, newer to union. Basically same contract except insurance benefits.

B stores Pay more but good insurance choices. Their cost is about half of what corporate store employees pay..

When I started 13 years ago, no B's and only 3 union A's out of 17 stores in my district.

This is a company ripe for picking by any union out there! Any union could make millions in dues at this point! Could not fix anything for the employees but they would pay dues just to have a voice in their treatment

Corporate in every company is greedy. That’s how shareholder capitalism works. What are some specific examples that make their employees so resentful towards them?

You can be with the company for 20 years and they will fire you in 2 seconds stilll if need be. My old manager was with the company for litterally 30 years and LP forced him out by threatening him with nonsense.
