Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

More cuts coming in August ?

This might be just a rumor and not true. Did any one hear that 2000 more need to go in August. I heard one HR executive who was let go told people that 2000 people will let go in August , no idea if they will do it through voluntary seperation like what they offered last November or involuntary or just total rumor. I truly hope they offer generous voluntary package and hit whatever target they have with no layoffs . I hope we dont go through this emotional wrecking experience again

I am seeing how there is just so much negativity in the comments about GM’s social media posts that I would not be surprised that if this truly caries over to reality and people stop buying their vehicles, sales effected and they need to layoff again

I would be surprised if there were not more layoffs. The auto industry is transitioning and will continue to do so. Layoff have become a standard business practice to cut costs and realign the companies workforce. The days of working 30 or 40 years for one company are pretty much gone.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there are more cuts.

If they happen in summer, they can still save dollars and help the bottom line

By May, they will have fair idea of whether their financial “commitments”

So I think a few more people will get cut.

I think the publicity surrounding this lay-off has been bad and will hurt GM sales....

Which will hurt the numbers

In the end, many people will have suffered for negligible profit increase

If you are IT, and Randy Mott is your boss, you can guarantee that there will be more cuts. 1-3 per year. It's his MO. That's how he rolls.

It isnt even a "two and done". GM laid off 10% in 2018, in addition to the 15% this year.

Even with good financial results, they've been laying off for at least 2 years that I know of.

It's very likely this isn't a one and done. It would be healthy to keep the resume updated.

Heard that they were going to re-evaluation the status of the company at that time to determine if more cuts needed. I don't believe the actual cuts have been decided before this review can be done. Execs will probably go off to some posh resort, spend millions of dollars on themselves (which could be used to spare some jobs), to make these decisions.
