Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How Does One Hobble A Division?

If I had a product line that worked well, and that my customers raved about, but I did not want it to succeed, what would I do? 🤔

Would I change systems when they were working a bit too flawlessly?

Would I hold back the necessary tools?

Would I inject LSS?

Would I inundate managers with silly mandates and bury them in new paperwork?

Would I tie technicians hands?

Would I break balls relentlessly on time off and vacation requests, while touting my family-friendly, best places to work, BS?

Would I end expressions of appreciation, such as company-sponsored Christmas breakfasts?

Would I employ the meanest evil sadists as managers, pure POS?

Would I look to suspend good workers on trumped-up safety violations?

Would I stop keeping constantly needed supplies within timely reach?

I’m not exactly sure.

What would you do if you for some reason wanted to cut the knees out from a successful enterprise?

I will say it again, and I’m sure some are tired of hearing.

I used to work for Nortel, they did the same thing, outsourcing the “brain trust” and tech people all to satisfy bean counters and out of touch senior management.

Where are they now?

When their stock tanked from $90 a share, it was the biggest loss the Toronto stock exchange ever had.

RIF, RIF, RIF

Continue the brain drain, the loss of generational wisdom, the contacts and trust that had been built up and established over years.

Blow it all up. Start over from scratch.

And let all these professionals loose, so that they can be scooped up by the delighted competition.

Freeze pensions.

End company-provided medical coverage after 30 years service.

Start a reliance on three-year temps, contractors, and lower-tier employees...
