Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Was Alstom a good deal?

I think it was because it just shows how stupid GE Corporate really is. I for one come to work and sit at my station and watch the circus show unfold daily by the white collar and the blue collar workers daily. Nothing good is happening. Not in my plant just confirmed confusion and the unknown of what tomorrow will bring. Then I punch out at the end of my shift. I did hear that the union is getting shafted at contract negotiations. I here there will not be a negotiation.

That's funny. Apparently the union guys have their panties up in a knot over alstom. Alstom wasn't the dagger in your heart. The dagger in your heart is nobody wants GTs anymore. You think Siemens is laying off people because of the Alstom deal?

Alstom was the dagger in our heart. It was deeper than that, but Alstom ended GE. The T&L for Paris trips was off the charts :)

If I'm GE what is there to negotiate. IUE has ZERO leverage. If GE workers were smart they would run that union out of that building and stop paying dues.

"The entire value of Alstom has been written off by GE in 2018 ($23B). "

Not so. The +20B write down included Alstom and the ltsa's ... and? I have seen no clear statement on how much of what was included in the 20B. GE paid 10B for Alstom so even if the true value was $0, there's still a lot left unaccounted for.

GEs problems go much deeper than the Alstom deal

It was the worst deal in US history...will be the topic of future business school lectures on how not to do an acquisition. The entire value of Alstom has been written off by GE in 2018 ($23B). Immelt will be recognized as the worst CEO in the history of Western Civilization.

Then it's not contract "negotiations" is it. More blah blah blah from the peanut gallery. There hasn't been meaningful talks in years. Union dues are used for all expense paid trips for our "reps", you can't negotiate with your pants around your ankles and your a@@ in the air!!
