The tech has been around for years and is legitamite, but the fight would be in getting enough people onboard to make it worthwhile. Verizon is likely to believe that edge cloud services plus low latency fixed 5YEE could finally make this tech a real competitor for today's hardware game consoles.

The quality/latency/performance might be there for everyday gamers, but the trick is getting people to give up the current model of purchasing hardware and games. So far, it has been only a very small niche.

Why would anyone get games through Verizon when they can already buy/try out games through their gaming system... PS4, etc.?

Verizon is testing a disruptive technology aimed at exceeding the capabilities of SONY Betamax video. It is expected to be available in 2021.

If true, this is probably a good move to increase revenue...but as @X7Pa7Rv-qxt said, execution will be key. VZ probably has enough money to execute this correctly...but will they?

The key is execution. VZ has rarely succeeded when venturing outside of core services. Remember the VZ app store and multiple streaming services all of which have disintegrated. And ofcourse Oath or Oaf?

I normally don't comment here but eSports (aka Gaming) is a huge industry. Renting old games (remember GameFly?) was dumb.. but streaming current titles is the new VOD. I have to raise a glass to whoever came up with this. Combined with Fios or 5G sounds like a potential winner. No, I'm not some marketing clown (just a person who keeps their eye on the pules of tech).
