Verizon Posting for VZT Positions on Indeed

One thing I find interesting is that in some of my job searches being emailed to me I see Verizon advertising on Indeed for "Field Operations Managers" and reading the job description appear to be Outside Plant Supervisors. It is quite interesting that after offering this package they are now looking to recruit from the outside.

Then again from what I understand none or few associates are willing to take a promotion to this position so they have to maybe get outside people to be the supervisors. Just interesting that Verizon is looking to hire after offering a package. Of course I am sure what they are wanting is young people vs. the older people that took the package.

@2anb, my understanding is that the aim was to shed highly-paid , highly benefitted supervisors and have those roles filled at a lower cost and obligation. I agree with you that craft for the most part will not seek out these “promotions” because of medical, monetary, and other downsides but, why would you think the company would even want to replace those on the outside plant side who have left with other highly-compensated individuals anyway? What would the point of the VSP have been?

Shoot. There are 196 Jobs posted internally right now and I’d say more than half are 1st level management positions.

I am sure for Outside Plant supervisors Verizon is forced to recruit externally. I doubt there are many inside Verizon that would want this position.

The VSP was intended to get rid of as much of the pension obligation as possible which, by nature, is owned by the "older" people, and yes, higher salaries and more vacation in some cases. I am tired of people (not on this post as of now) implying that older= lazy, stupid or tired. I am one of the people who took the package. Why? Because they are getting rid of the pension obligation one way or another. I saw the stipulations of that package as a veiled threat. Don't volunteer and you may get laid off with less of a severance. There have been approximately 35 RIF's since 2007 and the people who took the VSP survived them all which should tell you something.

Getting rid of tenured, older employees with higher salaries, insurance costs etc was exactly what the VSP was all about. Of the many folks that accepted the VSP I am aware of very few whose positions have not already been backfilled or posted.

I work in outside plant and interact with all the cxm supervisors in Potomac. We had a lot of guys on payroll with 40+ years of service, drawing six figure salaries. They were good guys, but not a bad thing to get them to move on. And yeah, very few unionized craft want to take those positions and lose pension coverage.

are the advertised positions actually funded? companies are known to collect resumes with phony job postings. also a great method to sell wall street on business growth with job listings.
