Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The writing has been on the wall for over a year now that these changes were coming

I’ll start off by saying I am a-- at a store. There are a couple things everyone needs to realize.

  1. A trained monkey could do our job.

  2. A business will do what’s best for the business

  3. Phone technology is plateauing and customers aren’t buying phones like they used to

  4. The buying market will soon be the millennial generation who does all their shopping online

Verizon has seen these factors and is making changes accordingly. It’s not a personal thing to screw an individual sales rep over. The writing has been on the wall for over a year now that these changes were coming, starting with training our previously dependent customers to be self sufficient (smart setup, setup later, tech coach). The way I see it, reps that have grown accustom to the 3-4K commission checks have two options: Adjust your standard of living to match your new income or find another job that will allow you to maintain your standard of living.

The OP ( @WVLbLk7-blva )used stronger language than I would normally use myself, but I couldn't agree more with the essence of the post.

That’s exactly what they want.

Buy online and they will ship it to you and you’ll get it tomorrow. Want it today? Buy online and pick up in store. A cashier (or self service kiosk) will check you out.

I don't know what the changes are, but I departed Verizon just over a year ago. I saw the huge drop in real growth during my stay. I dropped my standard of living quite a bit but I was always an honest rep making 60-70k. If I stayed for 2018 I wouldn't have broken 50k. The job is going to eventually be a minimum wage cashier position.
