Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

How is your Market Manager? How do they treat you?

Ours is an absolute joke!!! When he comes in, very seldom says Hello. Same goes for the whole market team, they look right thru you as if you don't exist. All they do is ridicule, berate, embarrass, threaten, intimidate and talk down to the partners and management. So much for the philosophy of "respect for the individual", it is more like "disrespect for the individual". I even heard a story of a MM that paid his family to find things wrong in the clubs he oversaw, how SICK is that. To just waltz in to these buildings, act like you are KING and every employee in the building are your loyal servants, what a life. Then, intimidate the GM's to the point of they are afraid to wipe their own nose without permission, I can not imagine having to live my life knowing that my sole purpose was to make everyone's life that I connect with daily absolutely miserable. Whatever happened to getting input from the associates on how to improve things, or allowing the GM's to RUN THEIR BUSINESS, each club and market are different. Makes you wonder what kind of Kool Aid gets served at the share holders meetings every year let alone the Year Beginning Meetings. For this company to not see and hear any viable feedback from it's employees on what is working and what is not working and then fixing the problems, makes you wonder.

Am I the only optical manager out there that thinks WTF!?!? Seriously I can’t believe that they took a well run department that made money and Trashed it! The Lab is a joke and our frames s---! They are cheap and ugly. Why are people that have no clue what we do making decisions for this department? If we have be sold to a third company then just let us know. Maybe if Sam’s is out of the middle point we can have some control over what we can give our Patients. They are not members when we take care of them they become our patients.Just sayin...

Company Leadership is just Corrupt at every level. MM level and Regional level Executives are about the worse. The structure creates multiple ineffective direction and Leadership

in All Clubs. There is no help in the Clubs now it’s the usual Clean up fix up nonsense.

There will be major directional changes to the Operations side of the business. It will be a tough year, you have to be a fool to continue to suffer this year in, year out.

Who cares about the MM or teams , these guys are Clowns. All the RGMs are is another useless layer of redundancy. Company wants to get real , believes in itself and it’s Plans, have the guts to let GMs run their Clubs and hold them accountable when they

fail to perform. Get rid of the layers . MM are the worse. Have RGMs actually do something they can be the Perishable Specialst and AP/ Safety Guys. That’s what they are supposed to be. Most MM never shake the Clubs down because they do not know how. They operate on Fear, and Intimidate Club Teams. Most are hated, they deal w multiple execution issues of the week, day or hour! Always in the minutia. They cannot and do not grow talent. They truthfully , are the single greatest obstacle to progress, and Club execution. Take it from Costco boys and girls ... when it comes to layers of Supervision, Less is truly More!!!

The original poster is spot on. The working environment created by management has become extremely hostile over the past few years.

@dzq you are way wrong! Our market team use to be great. Made sure to say hello to everyone they passed, have conversations on how things were going and encouraged us to reach out if we needed anything. The nicest one of them all got a promotion a few years ago, and now works in Arkansas. But the whole group was great. You didn't feel intimidated when they came in. And if they did have issues with you area they taught you how to make it better. When our club closed they were there with us being supportive and letting is know they will help us get to whatever place we decided to go. I decided to leave the company. Now the place I work for is even better. There's no market team, but everyone that is high up is approachable and easy going. They even take groups of us to lunch and pay for it once a month. A good leader knows that it is their associates that make the company what it is. You treat them right and they will do right by your business. So many forget that today. It shows in the clubs Nationwide

It’s because the Company encourages this behavior and in fact emboldens it. Even when GMs or Management push back using the “tools” the Company has in place, Ethics , Open Door, it’s all bull ! They have clear substantiated evidence from Associates and other Managers and do Nothing. Take no action and it speaks to the Company we work for. Many of these MM are Window dressing, and very incompetent. Take zero ownership over repeated failures that their conduct creates and is responsible for. No Accountability. Many good people have left or been lost due to their lack of Leadership .
