Why is T and Other Big Companies (e.g., IBM, Bank of America) Calling Their Remote Workers Back to the Office?

Here is the hypothesis, not sure if I can agree with this:

“As with any monumental shift in employment practices, initially you have companies jump on board and an interesting idea becomes a fad of sorts and subsequently people start poking holes in it and the trend begins to dip,” Chere Taylor, founder of Fulcrum HR Consulting, told NBC News.

The more people you make leave, the fewer you have to layoff.

Take the DTV side as an example - with the random yet regular forced 6 days which are mostly unneeded, the mandatory 10 hour days, same day drop in jobs at 5 pm, the cancelled PTOs - our shop has had 14 people quit in the last year or so. We only had 42 to begin with.

So simply by making life miserable, T has reduced our headcount by over 25 percent with minimal cost to the company.

Win for the company.

It’s all bs. Ride the train and milk the cow until the bitter end folks.

The only problem is there is no "office" to come back to. You're sitting at a table with 20 other people in an open floor like you're back in preschool.

Because they are looking to lose headcount through attrition. That is he whole reason for recalling work from home. :-).

Probably because they are about to have a lay-off.
