We now have commercials promoting 5gE. We are being blasted in the media for this and laughed at by or competition. Does Randall really think our customers are this dumb? What a shameful marketing ploy and money grab.

There's a name associated with 5GE now, John Donovan.

AT&T Communications CEO John Donovan said AT&T is changing the 4G network indicator on smartphones to 5G E because "we felt like we had to give [customers] an indicator that said your speed now is twice what it was with traditional 4G LTE."
Customers won't care. 4G LTE itself covers such a wide range of speeds that it's meaningless.
Didn't T cry foul when other carriers started using "4G" branding without 4G specs? And now look at us. If you can't beat em, join em, huh?
The did the same thing calling 3.5G 4G and still do to this day.
OP - this is a good post
@muh: The point of these ads are to deceive
Never underestimate the stupidity of the masses, especially when talking about phone zombies.
99% of users will have no idea that their cool 5g phone is a crock.
yahoo.com had a report today regarding 5G cover up
I think whomever is responsible for this marketing campaign should be fired. If they want to call it 4½G well, maybe. But they appear deceptive in this 5GE approach.
