I understand we will get an email if we have been accepted, however does anyone know if we will be told how many were accepted, or will we just have to wait until it is public record?

Majority can also mean 51%. But the numbers could mean anything. I think about 12-13k will go. And who knows what the % of volunteers were out of 44,000. No need to panic either way. We will still have a job come Monday. Even if we aren’t accepted. But that’ll be disappointing.
