I always thought I would get that gold watch.
Grandad told me the railroad did give out gold watches , you bought your own.
Not sure I would want a battery watch anyway . They don't seem to last.

Quartz doesn't just beat cheap mechanical units, decent quartz is going to beat the best mechanical units, including those you name. Goal seems to be 10 seconds a year (or 5 for some really top end). Mechanical is much more than that
The railroad watches where auto-winding watches, not electric. The best watches in the world have mechanical movements. (Rolex,Breitling, Patek Philippe, etc.) A quartz battery movement is just a way to offer a cheap alternative with decent accuracy that exceeded that of a cheap mechanical unit.
