Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Question is how many leaving?

For those wanting or needing to stay the question of the day is how many of you are leaving?

If substantial numbers did not volunteer them all that remain are under the gun for layoffs. In 2008

If you stay I suggest you start saving for the next reduction in force.

@WwglNZj-1rll Benefit of staying is familiarity with the group and the systems. A new job means starting all over. Also I wonder if it’s worth sticking around to see if things will improve with Hans’ Verizon 2.0.

@WwglNZj-rlh why are you considering staying. You have not stated any benefits of staying with Verizon

My guess is 15,000 volunteered, 500 denied, and 14,500 approved.

If you were an IT dev in wireless, do you think it’d be too hasty of a decision to take a job with a 19% salary increase with a different company and leave VZW now? I was already told by HR I’m not eligible for the VSP because of short my tenure. My managers manager told me my VZW job not in danger. Trying to decide if wise to stay, or accept the offer on the table already with company X and a substantial pay increase. Any opinions appreciated. Thanks

Close to 50% of overall accepted should get December. The rest most likely March :) Deny rate probably between 5-10%, and those people already had a pretty good idea they were critical.

For those trolling or believing 20K+ numbers, it's all garbage. Simple percentages, there is no way the average take rate is 50%, which would be 22K. Word from multiple groups is around 20-25%, some groups higher, some groups lower. 44,000 * 25% = 11,000.

The rumors I heard about how many people opted in were: 11,000, 17,000, 27,000, 30,000. On Monday they will announce how many have been approved for VSP.

Per yesterdays noon time call, we will never know how many volunteered, but on Monday we should hear how many employees were approved.

There will be big RIFs later once the execs figure out exactly how to combine the business units. There are similar teams across all the business units that are now combining so they won't keep them all. Best advice is try to stay ahead of that by being involved in anything that fits the new strategy...once that is communicated.

Those that remain will stay under the gun of the next RIF. This won’t change regardless of how many stay and dance or how many leave with VSP.

She stated the vast majority that opted in. To me this means that not as many as they hoped took the package.

No one knows for sure.

Last number I heard was between 22 - 30K.

That does not mean all will be accepted.

HR call on Friday said “much more than 5000”. Best rumors/educated guesses are around 12,000.
