Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Unlicensed District Leaders must go...

Company making a huge mistake by assigning unlicensed district leaders for a pharmacy based healthcare company. These so called “leaders” don’t know what goes into being a pharmacist and operating as one in today’s environment. If you want to run a healthcare company it has to be start with healthcare professionals across the board who speak the same language as you and can understand and set realistic expectations. I had a district leader tell me that looking over and addressing DURs does not take and should not take longer than 10 seconds. Can’t have such ignorant people Managing.

This is a funny post. Too many clowns here. I have watched 3 DL's either get fired or quit due to the fact they know absolutely nothing about running a business( All pharmacists). The RM, also a pharmacist, she was fired because she had no clue. I have been an SM for over 5 years at CVS and over 10 years at other big box retailers. Bachelor degree in Business. My store is tight and I control all aspects of RX and FS. My RX manager does not have a clue how to manage but he is a good pharmacist and is friendly to customers.

If most pharmacists make a mistake and lose their licence...they will be "flipping burgers" because they know nothing besides medication knowledge. I as an educated experienced SM could go work in another retailer and make six figures or real close to it as I do now.

Know your place entitled pharmacists because it is not in management.

Everything is perspective. I know a Rph Dl that is amazing and manages one of the highest districts in the company. I also have a Rph DL that is horrible at their job. There are good people out there from different backgrounds. Coming from a 5k script store I will say most pharmacists can't manage people to the degree that they need to and having a healthy partnership is needed to accomplish goals. Discounting a group of people (pharmacists or FS) is closed minded and shows a failure of character.

Get real. Shift supervisors have no manager experience. 6 months in they become smit , after rubber stamping their training 3 months later a store manager. If they are likable and play the political game they become district leaders. So a year ago they may have been flipping burgers now they are in charge of a district! Do not tell me it does not happen, I have witnessed it 1 st hand. Pharmacist should be in charge of pharmacy and all other aspects as well. Not someone flipping burgers a year ago. Front store employees could not get another job of authority st amy other company

I am a 20yr pharmacist with cvs. If I was running my own business and had to hire a field manager i woukd hire a former store manager for the role. For a couple reasons...

  1. If it came down to accountability and hr policy the sm is much better equipt to make the correct decision

  2. When it comes down to time, the sm will work more hours

  3. A sm is less likely to get rattled under pressure

  4. I trust a sm with business metrics and impacting them.

A pharmacist will offer more care with customers but a sm will impact the team better. There's been many times that I have leaned on my store manager when there is issues with the staff. Shift leader would be a pharmacist and team leader would be a store manager.

So if I'm an educated store manager

I guess I'm different. My DL said 70% of his store managers have

Bach degrees and that should account for something . Makes me no better but you have to admit

Pharmacist are a specialized position with way too much tunel vision. If the DL is a good leader I fell it makes no difference

Most Pharmacists have no idea how to manage. Luckily "uneducated" fs managers do know how to. This is why unlicensed Dls have better results. It is not rocket science. In Pharmacy school there is no management course but in business management school there is.... plus lets face it the first person to complain is the pharmacist.

I agree all unlicensed DL must go. The new RPH DL has shown how a district should operate. 1000 percent better than before . I love my DL and I no longer must be afraid that a low class uneducated Fs manager(ha!) will be my new boss one day. All our leaders in the future will be RX based knowledge . Good bye FS. Lazy asses.

DL that are Pharmacist have allowed all the sh--ty managers influence them due to the fact they feel inadequate listening to proven front store leaders. All the sh--ty managers have to offer is a-- kissing! Who doesn't like their a-- kissed? You can not judge people correct if you do not know how to do the job, training wheels ?

I have a pharmacist DL. He's been trying hard since the beginning of the year to learn the front, but he has a long way to go. Doesn't have a clue how to merchandise, but tries to tell me how to do my job. My former DM got brought back into the company as a DL, and he's been doing good from what I've been told. What helped him though was that the former DL, who was a pharmacist, set strong people into the pharmacies she was over and left certain pharmacists in charge of certain things. She was good at delegating. In the end I believe if you know how to manage your team, you will be successful.

Same as an ignorant Pharmacist DL running a front store for profit. Leave each to their own skill set. Losing great talent. You must respect any leaders job knowledge. Ask them to set seasonal, they do not have a clue.

Results across the board tend to lean in favor of unlicensed DLs. It is typically due to the management aspect of the job. This isn't opinion this is just hard data collected by the talent development team at corporate and the dl knowledge assement taken earlier this year.

Start filing ethics complaints and BOP complaints...they won’t protect you, but they will act if patient safety is ever jeopardized
