Cross training

Sam's Club received direction from HO to cross train associates in different areas. This leads me to believe there are big changes on the horizon. They are up to something

Anyone heard that new backroom associates have to work half their shift on the salesfloor? We spend most of our day receiving n sorting freight n then the other half processing claims theres no way! We are still learning the claims side n thinking how n what club is doing this please let me train there... I cant see how its gonna work with so much on our plate daily

Cross training kinda contradicts the whole belted system they came up with doesn't it... aside from the fact that that whole idea was stupid up to $10 bucks more to just knw 1 area through n through what a joke!... we can cross train n different areas n still have more knowledge than the dipstick managers how some of them are managers amazes me...

Dont think for a minute that cross training is job security. After 18 yrs, worked in almost every dept, ended up in Receiving and guess what?!

This isn't new, the company has done it before. Let's be honest though here how it goes:

Fresh doesn't help anywhere besides their little island. Floor associates do floor, receiving, carts, tires, register, door so they don't really need to be x trained, Tires will stay in their area except to help push carts occasionally, cashier's don't leave their register because plus, door greeters don't leave the door.

Nobody in our club would cross train and do anything without more money. The breakroom is a battle b*tch zone.

Y’all have NO IDEA what’s going on. It’s pretty funny, actually.....You should really try to meet other associates outside of your small little worlds. js

Check out the wire they put up something about the new sams now store 44 employees and all of them have to know how to do every job. It’s also a testing ground for new tech to be implemented in clubs if it works. Just a sign of things to come.

Of course there is a motive. Next year jobs will be cut and when they do interviews for positions available the ones who choose tocross train and are more valuable to the company will keep there job.

Before I transferred to Sam's we had this here in columbus OH at the whitehall walmart. You had to click on the day you were scheduled and then it gave you areas that were available. Once you requested the area all you had to was talk the manager over the area and boom you were there but the manager had to give you a raise for that day it wasn't automatic like the sunday extra pay. Sounds like things are different on the Sam's side, which is a shame.

In that case who would work or why would they even schedule you to work a position below your pay. It’s funny because my GM said I wouldn’t work anything higher than my pay grade however everything I’m suppose to be cross trained for is lower....... suspect.

Walmart did this years ago. All it does is allow associates to work in literally any area that doesn't involve leadership or management but the walmart side paid you according to the job you took on that day. So for example if you wanted to do AP, you would be paid that day as if you were a real AP associate and it didn't affect your status of FT or PT.

Has anyone checked out the “mws, my Wal-Mart schedule” on the wire. It is set to roll out end of this month. Supposedly you will be able to pick up shifts in different areas of the club. If you want to cashier, stock or whatever you can. Personally I think it’s a way to try and eliminate some full time positions on the floor. Either way it’s crazy. This was the same time last year when they started making all these crazy changes and boom Jan/Feb stores closing.

If we got random raises, this site would be "Only got raises to fire us later, Sam's Club Scum"

@fne don't be so dense. They never do these things without an motive that will leave us worse off.

Which areas are they asking the cross training to be in?

Should unionize

Or, maybe they just want us to be versatile and be able to work in other area's. Just a suggestion

We are cut so short, take us out of areas to cross train or work.... that just leaves the other short. Just one big lose. Still no member services

For sure! They always try to pass it off saying it's to help the members. Then Bam! They change things again. I have a feeling February is going to be pretty crazy.
