Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T was once a great Company

Poor Leadership decisions have dragged this Company and it’s employees through the mud over the past several years. From a failed T Mobile merger, to over paying for DirecTV which is shedding subscribers, to taking on tremendous debt for TW, Leadership has proven their incompetence and instead of them being removed, it’s the hardworking employees who have given 20, 30, 40 dedicated years of service who are paying the price. I honestly have never heard of a more morally corrupt bunch of “leaders”. They need to write the book on how not to run a Company.

It’s been so long I can’t even imagine what it must feel like to work at a place that values you and makes you feel secure in your job. I can’t imagine what it is like to be able to make a big purchase and not have to worry will I have a job long enough to pay for it.

We have been conditioned to accept this as “needs of the business” all while they make billions in profit. When is enough, enough??

ATT has always had weak management tactically and strategically speaking. Because there's no innovation here their strategy is to make their numbers through acquisition and squeezing every penny they can out of their assets. If you feel like you're working for a company that's been taken over by a hedge fund there's probably a reason for that.

In order for AT&T to grow earnings you must first get rid of Randy and his lack luster, so called leadership team...the three John’s to be exact. Change must first happen at the top in order for AT&T to become a competitive company again. T doesn’t have any services or products that consumers are going crazy for. In fact they’re ditching T in mass numbers for being overpriced and not having anything innovative.

My focus would be on winning back customers who left for cheaper service by providing world class service, but you can’t do that now because after slashing the workforce so deep, customer service has declined and customers number one complaint. I certainly wouldn’t have made a deal to pay a break up fee which allowed my competitor to build a Network that is comparable to ours. That’s just for starters

Actually ATT was on the ropes long before SBC bought them in 2006. People critize them for buying TW and DTV but does anyone remember them 1) spinning of Mobility during the go-go days of wireless? 2) buying TCI (cable) and NCR then spinning/selling them off? THat was under Mike Armstrong.

Companies that were great yesterday, will be toast tomorrow. (See Yahoo, BlackBerry, Nortel).

Easy for monday morning quarterbacking by the chattering class on this blog, but what would you all do when your core business is contracting (wireline)? I see a lot of criticism but no suggestions on what ATT can do to grow earnings. A company that is growing is less likely to shed employees “Willy nilly”
