Sure, the guy’s not likeable, but that’s no the point. The goal is for you to remember the commercial, remember what company the commercial is representing, and increased sales because people remember that commercial with the guy they hate.

Was anyone actually in love with the “Can you here me now?” guy? Of course not. But the campaign was successful.

Put the TERMINATOR, Hans on the commercials to blow smoke about Verizon 2.0

Verizon has never been known for their creativity. They got lucky with " Can you hear me now." Look at Diego's store design , ice cream cones, S,M and L. Yet he wins awards.

@1jos, your comparison unfairly maligns hairy monkeys.

FIOS has only 3.7 M subs and declining

I can only see VZ interested in keeping it due to 5G and reliance on fiber optics networks

@1ctc I saw that. That was weird. Made me think they'll want to spin FiOS

Did anyone else notice that the FIOS commercials with the kid from "stranger things" do not mention or show the word Verizon? They only say FIOS. Why is that? So if that part of the business is sold to another company they can use the same commercials? What possible reason could there be for not having the company name on a commercial advertising their services?

I hate them too. I don't know what kind of IQ finds him appealing. He's just awkward, and goofy. Paul, however, is also worthless. He is Verizon's sloppy seconds dude. I also dislike that FIOS kid who lisps and looks like a hairy monkey

Hello -1flt

I would agree it sounds farfetched if I wrote it how you appear to be interpreting it. If you read my original post again, you may be able to note two things: 1) I stated "Big events", meaning not day to day viewing, and 2) I stated "Wondering", not pestering or lambasting or any other implication of being razzed mercilessly. Since they know I work for Verizon, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that they would pay more attention to something Verizon-related and comment on it, whether I have any influence on it or not.

I'm sure others can relate when they get asked by family and friends about their service when they may work in finance, for example.

Super Bowl commercials are one thing. But, to be sitting with friends who are lambasting you for a commercial at any other time of year, as if it’s your doing, sounds farfetched at best.

Hello -1vdf:

These commercials target a millennial subset. As I'm not a fan of these commercials, one could assume I'm not a millennial. I'll clarify and state I'm a solid Gen X'er. A Gen X'er with friends. Friends that occasionally get together to watch a sporting event, you know, like a World Series game or the Super Bowl. These events have commercials, some of which may spark comment. "Wondering" doesn't equate to "Pestering (sic)". Granted, we aren't discussing 19th century nihilism or the Ottoman Empire naval impact on trade with Europe during the 17th century like apparently some folks do while watching TV, so there is that. I will walk back my outsourcing comment, it isn't cool to comment that others should lose their jobs, however, the rest stands as this campaign is truly awful and unbecoming our position in the market.

“...I have no explanation to my friends wondering why our advertising is so bad...” - @1hzl

Really, dude? Your “friends” are perstering you about advertising? C’mon? You’re saying that just to make a point, right, because if that’s the best you and these alleged friends have to talk about, there’s something lacking. Depth? Normalcy? Intelligence? Or, are you a Millennial?

Your Mom would tell you to find new friends.

Talk about outsourcing, what about the brilliant minds behind this campaign? Watch any big event, great commercial from one of the insurance companies followed by the latest lame and unfunny VZ commercial targeting about 2% of our potential customers. I have no explanation to my friends wondering why our advertising is so bad for a Fortune 20 company and when/if it will get any better.

It is a hard call between this guy and the Chevy guy as the most annoying mainstream commercial pitchman on TV today. Regardless, it is time to close the books on this campaign.

With our budget how have we had the worst commercials for the last 15 years? They’re horrible.

Current telecom favorite: You don’t quit, except for cable.
