I’m hearing that anyone in Massachusetts that was given a December 28th release date us eligible for unemployment. Is this really true?

what about Texas? I was out on 12/28.
MA employees get unemployment. They qualify since they were released in December and not June like others. This was the company’s decision therefore the employee did not chose to leave in December losing apote Italy 6 months the pay.
Certainly MA allows unemployment for a RIF where you sign away rights. So it's possible that they take the same view of the VSP if they focus on the giving up rights, and possibly not if they focus on it being voluntary.
It's very easy to apply online in MA, so if you think there is a reasonable chance, I would do that and see what happens.
A voluntary separation and being RIF’d are viewed differently as far as unemployment is concerned. Each state has different laws in this regard. As far as New Jersey, if you took the VSP, you do not qualify for unemployment even after the number of weeks of severance pay you receive passes.
