Anyone with a 6/28 date feeling stressed? I have a lot of work to turn over and it is going to take many months for someone to step into my shoes (no I do not feel that special) because I had so much stuff dumped on me years ago. I have been a team of one for 5+ years now. I really hate the thought of leaving my customer high and dry, but if they try to get my replacement a month before I leave there will not be enough time to do a proper turnover.

I am rebadged ESP and getting bored like hell. There is no plan to transfer the knowledge and responsibilities. Every body is taking their sweet time. Since its only a month notice they are taking it easy.
In my experience, in most cases where someone is "always busy" and has so much work that they are concerned about a transition...there are inefficiencies, old methods of doing work that can be automated, or irrelevant processes that can be stopped.
People tend to stay quiet and do their jobs, losing efficiency as processes stay the same for years. Example: all the people still spending hours each morning, manipulating excel reports.
When i get tempted to start thinking like the OP, I ponder the thought that if I died tomorrow, somehow life would go on as we know it. Yes there may be some hiccups, but then again it's not my problem anymore is it. The company created the problem, so the company needs to figure a way through it. And it will. It always does or shuts down the process. Bada Bing. Next!
Perhaps the OP cares whether the customer they support will leave when their liason leaves the company? All you windbags dogging the OP should probably consider that THE CUSTOMERS ARE THE REASON YOU ALL GET A PAYCHECK! Customers can be quite sensitive to changes like this. Many of them bolt or get downright crazy with little changes happen. So, I can sympathsize with the post here. I have little confidence that your replacement is coming anytime soon, OP. If I were you, I'd let it slip to the customer you will be leaving in June if you haven't gotten a replacement to train soon. They will light a fire under someone to tell them what to expect when you are gone.
Awww the work that will be filed 13 when you leave, you were a desk jockey, nothing more nothing less. Your leaving because the work you are doing is already being done by someone else or is going to the relevant waste bin at the end of the cubicle isle.
OP here.
C’mon guys, stop chiding me. Yes, I’m in a cubicle but, I am a Super Hero of sorts.
Mild mannered by day and, I guess, at night as well, my fevered computer entries and customer follow-up have no doubt left their indelible mark on society..., nay, the world!
The label “hero” is sometimes bandied about too much these days but, when it comes right down to it, I AM A HERO, A FREAKIN’ INDISPLACEABLE ONE.
Yeah, I know it’s not a word, but I DO NOT CARE!
I’m TOO BIG FOR A MERE GRAMMERLY REINS to resort to the common trash term “indispensable” you weak-minded fools! Cower before me! All bow before your new king! Prepare to taste my wrath!
(Distant yelling becoming more distinct as OP wakes up) Ah....what....Boss. I don’t know what happened. I guess I was snoozing. Won’t happen again, Sir. I am so sorry.
The hostile trolls on this page wouldn’t have the courage to respond face to face. Some of you must work in groups where there is all kinds of people that can do your job. Get lost. I work with departments where they started cutting off limbs years ago because the fat was gone way before that. I am already having issues with figuring out who took over my support group’s tasks. The transition plan that is seemless to the customer is nothing but a bunch of bulls@#&t. I have some POd customers and it is only going to get worse.
why the hostility people? Some of us do care about the orderly transition of work. However the leadership really has no transition plan, so why should we care? I feel sorry for the people that will have my work dumped on them when I go, but oh well. Not my problem. OP, just show up and do what you can do in 8 hours and go home til they cut you your severance check. Forget about this place.
“...I have been a team of one for 5+ years now...” The OP (Overly Pompous)
No one cares about your home life.
I was about to compare you to a particular part of the human anatomy in the nether regions but, after some contemplation, I decided that it would be wrong to in any way associate the valuable job that that region performs via bowel release, as opposed to your useless function.
I am indispensable. The voice in my head tells me daily. I will leave you now as I am planning to split the atom before Sportcenter comes on.
OP, our company, as with most companies, has changed CEO’s without so much as hiccup several times over the years. I am sure the cubicle that housed you and your swelled head has room for your replacement. Don’t fret. Oh Self-Important One.
Everywhere, graveyards are full of indispensable people.
Really?
If you’re not trolling, and that’s a big IF,
Get over yourself you self-aggrandising peon.
If the most powerful nation on earth can risk the replacement of its POTUS every 4 years, I imaging we will muddle through, and the world will not end, in your absence.
Enjoy your retirement. Job well done. Stand down.
IT’S OVER JOHNNY, IT’S OVER!
