Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Whats Left????

My Org has lost over 1/2 of its people and we still have gotten zero direction or had even one call to discuss what the new Org will look like, nothing, no Org Chart and silence from our Manager, AD and Director. Did they not plan any of this out? Talk about a complete mess and waste of time, I have no clue on what I am supposed to be doing and who left. I guess we will figure out who is left by getting bounce backs when we email someone.

@WVE6fXu-5mfb are you saying there is joke 'Shrinkage'?

@WVE6fXu-5xbn if you have to explain the joke and then flog it along it's not funny. Seinfeld was barely funny for the normie drones decades ago - it's not playing.

5cpu, if you crave direction, Kruger Industrial Smoothing might be for you, though only George is there.

I'm relieved that the 'radio silence' isn't unique to my group. I'd liken it to that awkward shared silence after seeing someone slapped across the face. It'll sting less eventually; palm-print 2.0

What I don't get is how do x% of VSP takers determine Verizon 2.0? Why wouldn't you just determine a new model and staff it after vsp.

Now director level have been shuffled around on Dec 10 and it's been radio silence for staff. Our new director has sent us all of one email saying hello. How do we pay all this money to managers and directors and they seem to not have any concept of how messaging and optics work with large scale reorganizations? We could be hitting the ground running and moving towards a more efficient business model but instead it's whispers and open silence.

1/3 of our department just disappeared about a week ago and not a word said to even acknowledge the situation.

Nobody was prepared for what happened. Our best people took it and are separating in waves.

I'm a March VSPer.. my boss hasn't even spoken to me since the week of the 10th lol. They definitely weren't prepared for this at all.

There's still a lot of confusion among middle management about what happens next. All you can do is wait it out while the top-down changes happen. It's stressful, but staying focused on what's in front of you is the best thing you can do for now if you plan to stay with the company.

My supervisor who left on the 28th didn’t know what was going on. Their supervisor never talks to us low level folks so never heard from them.

I have been working on things as if nothing changed just so I move them even though they’ll probably get changed/cancelled whenever I’m in a new org.

I actually only found out who my manager was via the eweb and I haven’t heard from them.

All great signs.

I found myself in a similar situation at Kruger Industrial Smoothing.

It’ll work out.

OP why, precisely, are you at all worried about something that is totally beyond your control, and not of your doing?

You’re looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Enjoy your downtime. It won’t last long and you’re blameless in this scenario.

Relax Grimey.

The problem is many in management are not sure of what their role will be. So we can totally fault them on not providing proper direction

OP you are correct in that there is currently no direction. Our management has no idea how we are supposed to move forward in this brave new world either. We have no information on how we are to engage with our former employees (now InfoSys). It's also disconcerting to get those email bounce backs from people with whom you were engaged on a project and had no idea they were leaving. Great transitioning huh?

Somehow we will all muddle through this. Eventually. I'm just counting down the days til I'm gone as well.

Wow, OP upvotes every response that’s self-authored in an oh so lame attempt to add credence, legitimacy and the aura of consensus

Well done youngblood. Here’s another trophy for your case 🙄

I hear ya, @WVE6fXu-npx

I'm already finding local jobs that pay 2x what I'm making.

But I gotta stick around until March to get the nice buyout.

It's definitely time to "chart your own direction."

When I took this job, I knew the money was good.

But, I expected extreme handholding, great pay and benefits be darned!

Where’s the handholding?

Am I to understand that I must show independent thought and initiative in return for great pay and benefits?

Is this what I signed on for? OMG. MOMMY!!!

I'm currently sitting on a "scrum" call with my dumba$$ boss who is nitpicking every Jira story.

No direction. S/He just keeps throwing keywords out and telling us to "think about it."

March can't come soon enough.

Can we cut the kumbaya nonsense.

If you know your job, and you’re doing it, and that’s adding value, that is what’s expected and respected.

If you have been here any lengtg of time, and you see no role for yourself, maybe there is no role, and you should feel ashamed every payday, as the people who know their role, and are achieving goals, are carrying you.

Get in the game, or get off the teet.

Enough with the new age feel goody goody tripe.

ytc, why say “no need to attack people” and then ATTACK a person who responded to an OP that was, to be truthful, wimpy and a bit pathetic.

You REALLY don’t know why you’re drawing a paycheck? and, you’re announcing it to the world?

Why?

I feel sorry for you that you feel the need to attack your co-worker instead of offering support and empathy during a difficult time. Bet you spend your whole day boasting about this to any poor soul that gets stuck listening to you. YAWN

Where did I knock the chat board @ytc?

I didn’t.

Rather, I knocked the individual that was chatting, reaching out to strangers, because they maintain that they are clueless as to what their job function is.

Apparently something hit a nerve with you.

Young?

Inexperienced?

Always looking for a lifeline rather than being your own person?

You maintain I am what the company “wanted to leave”. How’s that? I know my job and why I am here. No one needs to hold my little hand and guide me.

What about you? You sound useless. I believe the enterprise would fair better with you, a person that does not even know why they’re here, or what their functions and responsibilities are, gone.

No need to attack people, sounds like MED you are what VZW wanted to leave. I am OP and we were told before everyone took off for the holiday that our role and responsibilities are changing yet here it is 2 weeks later and we have ZERO direction and yes I have ranked up and yes I work with many different groups and have no idea who is left. Dont knock the chat board since you are also on here and felt compelled to post a response.

“...I have no clue on what I am supposed to be doing and who left...” OP

You have no idea what you’re supposed to be doing?

What, if anything, were you doing before? Keep doing that.

How long have you been here and how old are you?

Did you come up through the ranks?

Doubtful because, had you, you would be equipped with the knowledge that is currently alluding you rather than wallowing in woe is me self-pity on a chat board.

Who else is regretting their decision to stay? Yes I am one that regrets not jumping on the BuyOut Train. Now we are left with more work and zero direction.
