Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Alternatives?

Not all companies treat their employees like sh-- like Walmart. Walmart is not a people friendly company.

Okay, but which companies are those? Sears, Whole Foods, Lowe's... These are just a few companies I clicked on on the front page that have the exact same problems as we do - if not worse.

So what are those mythical companies that treat their employees better?

@1wop " Their long term plan in the Home Office is to get rid of the Christian, Straight, White Males" is BS and you know it. When my team had a layoff in .com a couple years ago, more women then males were laid off. All were white but guess what, so was most of the team. No idea about faith and it was irrelevant anyway. The common thread was most were 40+ years old and/or 5+ years with the team.

The bias at WM for layoffs isn't gender, race, or religion. The bias is age and tenure.

All Walmart cares about is diversity. That's it. Their long term plan in the Home Office is to get rid of the Christian, Straight, White Males. Their bonuses depend on this. Then, they will start getting rid of the White Women. At the Home Office, they refer to the White Males as the Pasty White Males.

3M is a MUCH better company to work for and that is where the "associates" at my DC are all going. Starting pay of +4 bucks plus triple time for holidays and double for every Sunday. Compare that to working ALL holidays for normal pay at Walmart, really is no comparison!

Costo, Bjs, Weigmans, Trader joes all have higher worker sat ratings for similar jobs to Wal-Mart. People dont mind the type of job, but mind the micromanagement and double standards Walmart management loves to dish out. Just give people hours to make money, chill, and pretend to care a hair.. Then turnover wouldn't be so high.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you're seeking fair, impartial and honest treatment and communication from ANY management team, any where, forget it. Corporate America is all based on lies, deceit, and the pursuit of the Almighty Dollar----at any cost, including your health and maybe even your life.

When you hear of / read in the company brochures buzz words like 'Family Values Based Culture' and 'Transparency oriented communication' just take it worth a grain of salt. All I can recommend is, keep yourself healthy, get as educated/skills trained as you can, be your own best advocate/career broker, and seek out the best comapny and job that most closely alligns with your needs. After that?

Keep your head down, mouth shut, eyes and ears open........and for God's sake, don't drink the Kool Aid!

I worked for Sears for 18 years. We got paid vacation depends on the amount of years employed. If we worked on holiday we got time-n-half, plus holiday pay. We had 4 personal holidays to use as we liked. We had a pension but, it end in 2006. We did have a 401 match ended after 2008. No raises after 2008. Health coverage OK. It is what it is. Find another job. Merry Christmas
