Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Incompetent managers making over $200k

Why are we not laying off managers that make over $200k but can't do the job of any of their direct reports? They just know the key words that they use in meetings to sound knowledgeable. They are always allowed to fill the roles if someone quits instead of doing the work themselves.

What does it take to expose these incompetent sweet talkers?

I have more respect for managers who rose from the ranks than those who were parachuted into the position because they have so-called higher degrees or worse. Classic example is the ex- CIO who has never written a single line of programming code nor has even turned on a router. She messed up IT big time. So yes the manager needs to know what his/her team is doing.

The person who said the manager doesn't need to know your job but know to manage is the classic case of corporate mo--n. How do you know if the engineer is a good engineer or an id--t if you can't tell if the engineering drawing Has a design flaw or a great design. How about accounting not knowing if the numbers make sense? This is how we end up with dum$a$$es getting promoted bc of nepotism. fu;(%€£¥ id--t

Your manager doesn’t need to know how to do your job. That’s what you are for. They need to know how to manage, which is very different. Full disclosure, I’ve got 15 years in operations at the front line, and then 6 in leadership.

When I was front line I never once was led by somebody who could do my job. I would not have enjoyed it if it happened. Promoting somebody into leading the team they were in is a classic error.

Good point. But on a lighter note, with the awesome raises we have been getting the lower level employees have to generate income somewhere....lol. The fat cats can still afford their life style bc no raise on $250k is still a good amount to live on.

What do you mean incompetent managers (PL) can't do the job of any of their direct reports (DR)? At EGD some managers are fully aware that some of their direct reports are not doing any work and collecting a pay cheque, while they are conducting work for their outside business interest on the internet and earning other income during business hours. So if the DR is not doing any work - what do you mean the incompetent managers can't do the job?? Also 'Acceptable Use of Computing Assets' - what a big joke!!! Most other companies would have fired both the PL and DR.

Thats hilarious. My manager doesnt know how to do anything (poor guy cant even do a credit card iexpense report) and his biweekly check is very healthy.
