Get rid of managers who manage less than 6 people

How about all the managers that manage less than 6 people? We have a ton of managers with less than 6 direct reports. Most managers dont do any work, they "manage", so they should be able to manage 6 people. Enbridge' s rule of 3 direct reports is stupid. So that means for 9 people, we will have 3 managers and then 1 director bc he will have 3 direct reports managers. So for 9 people, we have 4 supervising bodies each costing way more than the worker and adding zero value. GENIUS !!!!!!

I'd like to see all employees rating their manager at their competencies and values. The employees know which managers go to work, close their door and collect a paycheck. At least do it once in order to draw HR's attention to who the screw ups are.

While you may be right about the managers spending too much time on paperwork and processes, I am still waiting to meet more than 10% managers that i would call competent. They can't baby sit anyone about anything bc they have never done the work. They always had smarter people under them to take care of it. If the managers aka management were so smart, they wouldn't have created or agreed to implement all the bs processes that you refer to in the first place. Their whole focus is to keep the charade going and milking their "I am busy bc I go to a ton of meetings" jobs. I have not seen any tangible improvements come from a manager ever. It is usually an idea a lower level employee brought up that the manager sold as his own.

There probably are too many managers at Enbridge, but keep in mind that much of a people leader's time right now is spent trying to stay on top of Corporate's constant policy changes, initiatives, and attending the related training... and dealing with endless b---s--- that's been created by outsourcing functions like AP and the IT Helpdesk. God help you when you hire someone new and have to deal with the paper work and incompetence associated with getting a new workstation set up. And even worse... try dealing with AP for even the smallest matter. Corporate thinks it's saving money by moving things to an outsourced and "self-serve" approach, but all they've done is force highly paid people leaders to have to babysit broken processes and incompetent people who lack any kind of common sense and critical thinking.

What we need is more Infrastructure Planning employees, less mediocre regular employees. That is the key to success for Enbridge.
