Thread regarding Sears layoffs

@2stm That's the kind of customer Sears has been hoping in vain to lure for years... busy rich people who won't bother hunting for the lowest prices. I doubt they'll buy a lot of Sears clothing, but maybe some tools, appliances, and mattresses?

According to the Chicago Tribune, the reopening was a success. I'm a little surprised as the average Oakbrook shopper doesn't seem to me to be a typical Sears shopper. For those of you not from the Chicago area, some of the other stores at this center are Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor (which is not as nice as it used to be), J. Crew, Restoration Hardware, etc.

The store looks great! I was part of the team that helped create it. Yes!

Based on the pictures it looks like a very generic mid box. Take down the sign and shove everything in a dumpster and anyone could open there in short order.

Haven't been to Oakbrook in years. Is it still way more upscale than Sears?

King of Prussia Pennsylvania was the initial "downsized store" 4 years ago. They went from 2 floors to one, surrendering the top floor to D--k's Sporting Goods and Sears on the ground floor. Much to do was made about this new "concept".....new fixtures, new staffing and merchandising model, all the while touting that the rent paid by D--k's would underwrite the Sears operation for years to come.

Three months later, the ground floor was leased out to Primark, displacing Sears which had been one of the original mall anchors for 54 years.

Really think this Sears at Oakbrook is going to be there very long? It's the size of a shoebox and looks cheap and poorly designed (yes, I've worked on it).
