Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

OCI is hiring

Not only that, but they are below their Q2 hiring targets so there is a push to hire people now.

Fascinating that on one hand Oracle is laying off a lot of people and on the other hand trying to hire people for OCI.

What would the interview questions be? Uh, um, so you worked in AWS..... so, um, uh, you must know something about this cloud then then?...... Oracle needs a cloud thing...... so, um, uh, I guess you're hired!

And the other thing is, how can Oracle be sure they are hiring good people from AWS when they don't know enough about what they are doing.

The time for Oracle to have scaled up for cloud development is well past. No matter who you get, Oracle is years behind at this point. Cloud is not going to happen for Oracle. If you are working in that area, you will eventually be laid off.

Dumb-de-dumb, dumb. Oracle screws itself over by taking AWS's leftovers.

Quite amazing how the 3 stooges don’t comprehend that by bring people over from AWS they are making AWS better and oracle worse, because only the dregs of AWS would ever consider leaving it and joining oracle. Stupid is as stupid does and you can’t get more stupid than the 3 oracle stooges.

Yeah, right...... all of you great and fantastic, top-notch AWS-ers..... come and join SEARS! CEOs are buying back stock to prop up their own finances, instead of investing in the technology needed to build cloud!

Come and waste your time at Sears!

Oracle will recruit only the stupidest of the stupid from AWS.

Just checked couple of OCI UK based job postings and “right mind” is luckily not required! And based on LinkedIn statistics people are not exactly rushing to apply.

I wonder if they still ask people in OCI group to refer “only top 10% of their friends” for those positions as they used to. That was somewhere between disturbing and deluded.

Who in the right mind wants to take up an opportunity with Oracle at this point? Better chance to survive to jump off a cliff.

@VYBRJYl-2pki Agree. I think that this might possibly be the most likely situation for AWS people being hired into Oracle.

I agree, but there is also a subsection under the gold diggers. Frauds who couldn't program their way out of a paper bag but will cash in on being associated with the AWS brand and need to leave before they are discovered to be total posers.

Good thing Oracle is becoming so unrelevant that NYT is not tempted to run similar article on its toxic culture. TK would have provided ample fodder, and DJ has his moments, too.

IME, those hired from AWS and MS fall into three broad categories:

  • outright gold diggers who came over for money and exist in vegetative state until they are fully vested.

  • borderline sociopaths with saviour syndrome who think they can single handedly save the day; sadly big egos do not tend to translate into great products.

  • somewhat decent deluded souls that run away screaming after 6-12 month stint - apparently that’s how long it takes to hit the bottom.

Really??? Last I checked AWS was part of Amazon. The NY Times article discussed the toxic culture for white collar workers, e.g. programmers at Amazon including those who work on AWS.

You are confusing Amazon with AWS.

If you at all believe The NY Times article (https://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/16/technology/inside-amazon-wrestling-big-ideas-in-a-bruising-workplace.html) about the toxic culture at Amazon then there would be very good reason for good people to leave Amazon and join oracle.

.... and even if you could hire competent people from AWS, they would be managed by id--ts who would screw everything up trying to take credit for everything themselves.

There is no future at Oracle. Seriously, to come from AWS to Oracle only indicates desperation and incompetence on the part of the employee. If you can't make it at AWS, you can bluff your way through Oracle with no problem, since no one at Oracle knows what they're doing.

I am willing to bet my shirt on that.... no one who is really doing well at AWS is going to give that up to come to Oracle.

Spoke to an OCI hiring manager last week asking me if I would go work for him. Uhhhhh no. I’m going to AWS and getting the hell outta here.

You're making the right choice. No future at Oracle in anything.

No. The OCI-C people are being laid off and new people are being recruited for OCI

Are they transferring employees from OCI Classic to OCI?

Still seeing lots of job posts for BUR and a few for ManchesterNH, which I presume is whatever DYN is now.

Yes, they are totally hiring. Just look at the Confluence page that shows who the new hires are every week and they have been on a hiring binge for a while now(and if you look closely, most are either from Microsoft or Amazon). They just finished up in Ireland. Next up is APAC in Singapore.

And yes, this is the only group that is experiencing growth in terms of people while the rest are either not hiring or laying off people. Many people from the xGBUs including a manager were laid off last month.

You mean they are looking to hire some unqualified slave labor in some god forgotten hellhole for peanuts and are failing with even that because the word has gotten around and nobody wants to work for oracle? No wonder LE always hated the internet, word gets around way to fast about shysters like him
