New full-time employee hours at some locations

A location in north Texas is doing what Bentonville says is testing of new full time employee hours to include ONLY two eight hour shifts, they fill the gaps with part time employees of only four hour shifts. It runs through the coming holidays, till the end of January. You either work 5am to 1 pm or 2pm to 10pm. Also,It does not matter what the law defines as full time in Texas, (or any other state for that matter) you must now work a schedule of 40 hours on the clock to be considered a full time employee, not anything less. This is not only an inconvenience those who have families and lives outside of the club, with the club not opening until 7am, that means jobs that normally have a "customer service"position, ie, front desk, cafe, cashiers, COS etc, etc...they are being made to crossover to a logistic night time positions, restocking, store maintenance, janitorial,etc... to perform additional night crew responsibilities to justify being on the clock before/after normal operating opening and closing hours. Then, they go to the job duties for the original positions they were hired for...and don't even ask or expect a weekend, (Saturday AND Sunday off) you'll continue to get your two days off a week just not on Saturday and Sunday, you might not even get them on consecutive days. Either Bentonville has drank the kool-aid by doing this, or local management is lying about this being Bentonville's doing or the club is on the 2019 store closing list to begin ironically in January.

The hours for part time employees are crazy. Never consistent. Yes, it’s retail but consistent hours make for better employees. You don’t know what going to come up in 3 weeks time that you would have to ask for time off.

For a set shift? Sure. I would rather work on a weekend over a week day. You can request a weekend off 3 weeks in advance. But if you have a good TL then they rotate you around anyway. Learn to do other task, while getting 40 hours, and it could look good on your resume? Sure. I have bills to pay and opportunities to seek.

Wonder if this is what all the cross training is about. We were told about this on Tuesday. Everyone that was chosen will be cross trained by a trainer

I’m really tired of “trolls” coming on here and saying insensitive comments. Keep it to yourself and get a life.

We come here to read what other people are saying, feeling and doing about what goes on in the clubs. Yes we know it’s retail and yes everyone knows you need to work to make money. If they want to leave, they can. No need to be so “extra.”

Sounds like some of these people have too much spare time on their hands. Go to work, get in school, spend time with friends and family.

Why worry about all the changes this company makes. We know they do not care about the associates or our families. The Walton’s only care about making more money. Do your job and stop worrying or caring about all the changes. Clock on work your schedule hours and leave detach your self emotional from the company.

We have several door greeters who are either in wheelchairs, elderly, or have other disabilities. They won’t be able to live on 4 hours a day and would never be able to stock. Guess their out of a job.

Very few people get weekends off unless you were claims and receiving and I believe the ones who will remain back there will still have weekends off except the part time position Remember you work for them and if you are unhappy move on the company has become very bad to work for.

Don't see this working, every single week the HO is telling mgt. to cut, cut, cut our hours. Don't remember the last time I got 40 hours. Cut but triple the work load so we can make stock holders HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY!!!
